Born in 1848 from the division of the Mac Carthy family estates, Château Haut-Marbuzet's fame began in 1952, when Hervé Duboscq became its owner. It continued in 1988, when his son henri bought the château mac carthy enclosed in its terroir. It was completed in 1997, when the renovated vineyard reached its ideal age. From then on, these two magnificent estates became one. The Mac Carthy brand was used to market wines from the youngest vines. The surface area is 66 hectares, planted with 40% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Hand-harvested to ensure over-ripeness. Complete destemming: long maceration accompanied by daily pumping-over. The average age of this vineyard is 30 years. The vineyard is planted on a marvellous hillside of Günzian gravel with a clay-limestone subsoil, abundant in discontinuous veins where iron is found in its reduced form.
