The winemaker

A Family Story

To understand the identity of the Siozard vineyards is first to take a journey of nearly two centuries into the past. So we find ourselves in the middle of the 19th century, on the banks of the Dordogne, in the heart of what would later become the Barsac appellation. The family's vineyards thus survived a century of tumult, which had taken the toll on many of their neighbors, and emerged stronger.

Today, the sixth generation is gradually taking over the family business. On the agenda, major changes that anchor the Siozard vineyards in the modernity. The first step is to obtain the "Terra Vitis" label in 2016. However, we do not stop there since the conversion to organic farming is underway. It will have been understood, the family approach today is to respect its terroir, its customers, and society as a whole, while protecting the vine through innovative approaches to viticulture.

Great Bordeaux classics

The Siozard family's vineyards are divided between Chateau Lapinesse and Claouset. The former being located in Barsac, the latter in Entre-deux-Mers. The respective ranges of the two châteaux start with wines that are rooted in the Bordeaux tradition, testimonies of the know-how acquired by the family during the last two hundred years.

For the reds, we find the classic Merlot and Cabernet-Sauvignon, the majority in the blends. They are, for the most part, aged in oak barrels, with a variable proportion of new wood to give the wines the smoky and spicy notes so characteristic of Bordeaux. The result is wines that can wait several years in the cellar for a perfectly balanced result between power and greed. It should be noted that we distinguish the "Prestige" vintages from the classic vintages since the "Prestiges" are the fruit of the best parcels and benefit from a more careful maturation.

On the white side, Chateau Lapinesse has the particularity of producing 100% Semillon, for its dry wines (Graves) as well as for its sweet wines (Barsac and Sauternes). Although unusual, this results in wines that are incredibly greedy, with notes of ripe fruit and honey, without giving up the freshness that we look for in white wines. At Barsac, special attention is paid to the grapes, which are harvested in successive batches to ensure that they are all ready to produce great wines. The higher up the range you go, the more you end up with great wines, capable of competing with the most prestigious of their neighbors.

Innovative wines

After the classics, come the "out of the ordinary" wines, atypical grape varieties and more natural vinifications are at the heart of this "IPSUM" Offbeat range. Low volumes largely compensated by the quality of the wines and the renewal they bring, all the more interesting as some of the grape varieties concerned, such as Petit-Verdot, are proving to be more resistant to climate change than the great Bordeaux classics like Merlot.
