Château de Marsannay

4.3
(16 customer reviews)
In the heart of Burgundy, just outside Dijon, Château de Marsannay boasts 28 hectares in the appellation of the same name. At the beginning of the 20th century, Marsannay was a prestigious Côte de Nuits appellation. After falling into oblivion, it has undergone a veritable renaissance in recent years, particularly since obtaining its AOC in 1987, and Château de Marsannay is one of the architects of this renaissance. The winemaker

An exceptional land

The Château has exceptionally rich terroirs with plots in Ruchottes-Chambertin, Chambertin, Echezeaux, Clos de Vougeot, Champeaux and Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Bel-Air. An application for Premier Cru classification is under consideration for 13 of its parcels.

Burgundy is rich in more than 100 appellations, however, there is only one grape variety, Pinot Noir, for the production of red wines and only one for white wines, Chardonnay. It is the great diversity of soils and climates that allows the region to have so many appellations. This specificity has moreover been recognized as unique in the world by UNESCO and the climats of Burgundy are now classified as world heritage of humanity.

The know-how

The teams of the Château de Marsannay practice a reasoned agriculture with control of the yields, strong attention to the quality of the grapes and manual harvest. The Château has vaulted cellars typical of Burgundy, in the tradition of the Cistercian cellars found for example at the Château de Meursault. Built on two levels, their depth is nine meters. They allow the maturing of wines at a temperature of 15 degrees, with a good level of humidity and can accommodate 400,000 bottles.

The wines

The wines of Château de Marsannay have received multiple awards. It is difficult to mention only a few of them as the production of the Château is so rich and varied. The domain produces mainly red wines, but there are however two white wines and a rosé in Côte de Nuits.

Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is an exceptional vintage. This wine has a clear color, with cherry red hues. Its nose is elegant, with aromas of wild berries and a hint of spice. This wine is a perfect match for eggplant caviar or duck breast.

Marsannay Clos du Roy is a cuvée made from old vines of a limited area, planted on limestone gravel soil. It is produced in only a limited number of bottles and has won several awards. It is a generous yet racy wine with red fruit aromas.

Echezeaux Grand Cru is a brilliant wine, in which flavors of cranberries, brambles and forest fruits are found. Awarded by the Revue du Vin de France, the cuvée has an aging potential of 8-25 years. Marsannay Blanc is a fresh Chardonnay made from a blend of several climates. This full, balanced wine has a golden yellow color and beautiful yellow fruit flavors.

Bourgogne du Château is a full-bodied cuvée with a round, gourmet mouthfeel and black fruit flavors.
