The winemaker

The history of Château de Meursault

The origins of this château date back to the 11th century. This mythical Burgundian site also boasts a large vineyard that brings together a wide variety of prestigious wines. At the beginning of the 19th century, the estate expanded and underwent major architectural modifications. At the same time, the wine estate expanded. Following several successions, it was bequeathed to the Comte de Moucheron.

In 1973, it belonged to the Boisseaux family for many years, represented by Jacques, CEO of the Kriter Group. At that time, the château was completely restored. Château de Meursault is currently owned by the Halley family, who took it over at the end of 2012.

The vineyard and its vines

The Château de Meursault vineyard extends over 65 hectares of vines: Chardonnay for the whites and Pinot Noir for the reds. Typical of Burgundian fragmentation, the vines are spread over more than 110 parcels and are located within an average 10-kilometer radius of the Château.
With limestone-rich, well-drained soil, they are situated at an altitude of 250 meters and face due east. The vines are worked "en tâche" by 18 estate winemakers.

As a result, each plot is supervised by the same winemaker throughout the year. Manual work ensures quality control of the soil, the health of the vines and their growth. When harvest time comes, the estate hires over 150 pickers to cut the grapes and transport them in perforated crates that can hold 20 kg of grapes. The bunches are then sorted before being pressed for Chardonnay or placed in vats for Pinot Noir.

Elected one of the most beautiful vineyards in France

With its 35 appellations, 65 hectares of cultivated land making it one of Burgundy's largest vineyards, and cellars dating back to the 11th century, Château de Meursault didn't need any publicity to show it off. And yet, the famous magazine GEO published an article in January 2021 citing the vineyard as one of the twelve most beautiful in France.

Château de Meursault welcomes around 20,000 visitors every year. It vinifies up to six cuvées from a single appellation, producing on average as many red wines as white. Its two-hectare park offers an exceptional setting.
