The History of Domaine Chanson

Domaine Chanson represents one of the oldest wine producers in Burgundy, located in the historic heart of Beaune. Its winery dates back to the 15th century and more than 80 appellations are grown in its cellars. The estate was founded in 1750 by Simon Véry during the reign of Louis XV. The name of the Domaine Chanson dates from the French Revolution.

The "Tour des filles" is one of the 5 bastions still present in Beaune. Built at the beginning of the 16th century, it owes its name to the "filles de mauvaise vie" who lived nearby. It has since been renamed the Bastion of the Oratory, in homage to the nearby chapel. This is where the Domaine Chanson barrels are stored.

Four levels house the wines. The first three are dedicated to red wine and the fourth, built more recently in 1826, is reserved for white wine.

In 1999, the house was taken over by the Champagne house Bollinger. The Domaine Chanson is managed by Gilles de Courcel.

The Domaine Chanson vineyard

The Domaine Chanson vineyard covers 43 hectares, of which 30 hectares are red and 13 hectares are white. The average age of the vines is 35 years. The average production is 180,000 bottles per year. The estate cultivates its own vines, but also buys grapes to vinify in its cellars. The grape variety for the red wine is Pinot Noir, the one for the white wine is Chardonnay.

The Domaine Chanson covers 45 hectares exclusively in Premiers and Grands Crus on the most beautiful villages of the Côte de Beaune, that is to say in the heart of Burgundy. The vineyards are located on parcels whose names are very evocative for lovers of Burgundy wine: Santenay, Chassagne Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet, Beaune, Savigny Les Beaune, Pernand Vergelesses, Corton...

The Domaine Chanson is certified High Environmental Value (HVE) since 2016.
