The winemaker

An ancient winemaking tradition

The first traces of Volnay's winegrowing history date back to Roman times. The Romans, well-versed in winegrowing, spotted the potential of these terroirs and began winegrowing in the region over 19 centuries ago. In the 9th century, La Pousse d'Or, like other Volnay estates, was owned by the First Dukes of Burgundy and produced wines of the highest quality.

The imposing estate of Domaine de la Pousse d'Or was built in the 16th century for the lord of the region. It subsequently had several owners. In 1964, the Ferté family reunited the estate with its vineyards, the two having had separate owners for several decades.

In 1994, Patrick Landanger bought the estate from the Ferté family and undertook major renovation and development work. The estate regained the prestige it had enjoyed in the past and returned to producing wines of exceptional quality. In 2019, his son Benoit Landanger takes over from his father at the head of the estate.

Terroirs

The 18-hectare vineyard extends over exceptional terroirs in the Côte de Nuit and Côte de Beaune. The parcels are located on some of Burgundy's most prestigious climats, with five Grands Crus and eleven Premiers Crus, including three monopoles, in Volnay, Corton, Chambolle-Musigny, Pommard and Puligny-Montrachet.

The dominant grape varieties are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. They bring a rich aromatic bouquet to the wines and strongly express the singularities of these exceptional terroirs.

The estate

The estate is farmed organically, and the producer carries out the entire winemaking process by gravity. He cultivates his vines according to biodynamic methods and uses no chemicals. Vinification is carried out slowly, using natural, bio-controlled methods, and the wine is aged on lees. The wines are aged in the optimal conditions offered by the estate's magnificent cellars in oak barrels.

For many, the exceptional quality of La pousse d'Or cuvées lies in the perfect harmony that exists between terroirs, grape varieties and the know-how employed.

The wines

Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Premier Cru Les Groseilles is a complex Burgundy offering a beautiful aromatic palette blending woody and fruity nuances. This is a wine with good ageing potential, which will reveal its full potential with a few years' ageing, but offers great tastings in its youth.

Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Premier Cru les Jarollières is a wine with a robust structure. The nose blends spicy, fruity notes with woody nuances.

Domaine de la Pousse d'Or monopole premier cru Clos des 60 ouvrées is a complex, well-structured wine. The nose is fruity with cherry aromas and a spicy note. The palate is precise and delicate. This is a wine to be kept for a few years to allow it to express its full potential.
