The winemaker

Charles Mortet founded his domaine in 1956 with a single hectare of vines. True to Burgundy tradition, he sold most of his production to the wine trade. In 1978, Denis joined his father with Laurence, his wife. He was 22 and she 20. The daughter of farmers, she was soon working in the vineyard and developing a taste for it. Little by little, Denis developed bottle sales. In 1993, he took over from his father and created Domaine Denis Mortet. At the time, the estate consisted of 4.5 hectares - in the communes of Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny and Vougeot - and grew steadily. In 1993, the Premier Cru parcels Lavaux Saint-Jacques, En Motrot, Au Vellé, En Champs in Gevrey-Chambertin, and La Côte des Longeroies in Marsannay were acquired. In 1997, acquisition of La Combe du Dessus. 1999: acquisition of the Chambertin Grand Cru parcel. In 2000, acquisition of the Premier Cru and En Derée parcels. The estate now covers 11.2 hectares. In 2000, Arnaud joined his father. Since 2005, he has run the estate with his mother Laurence.
