The history of Domaine Valette

Domaine Valette is managed by Philippe Valette. His grandfather, who came from neighboring Bresse, settled down and learned the wine trade, which led him to become a tenant farmer. His father took up the torch, but not wishing to work for the cooperative, he founded Domaine Valette. Today, Philippe Valette and his wife Cécile have made their mark on the world of Burgundy whites. The vineyards in the commune of Chaintré straddle the Mâconnais and Beaujolais regions. The domaine is planted exclusively with Chardonnay.

The Domaine Valette vineyard

The Domaine Valette vineyard covers 8.5 hectares and is planted entirely with Chardonnay. Since 1992, the vineyard has been farmed biodynamically. The soils are worked with the aim of achieving a balance of microbial life, so that the vines integrate harmoniously into this ecosystem. Recurrent scratching of the soil, as well as grassing, encourage the development of deep root systems. This allows the vines to draw the resources they need from deep within the soil. Philippe Valette is a stubborn farmer of integrity. His farm does not subscribe to organic certification, because he believes that "it's up to conventional farmers to be transparent about their practices" and not up to him to prove that he works without chemicals. He refuses to pay for a label that only proves his good faith.

The wines of Domaine Valette

Domaine Valette offers white wines made from the Chardonnay grape variety. The range includes various cuvées of Macon Chaintré, Viré Clessé and Pouilly Fuissé. The wines are recognized far beyond France's borders. Philippe Valette embodies Burgundy, but in a rather unusual light. His white wines win over critics not only for their quality, but also for their originality. Domaine Valette's white wine promises to be particularly opulent and seductive.
