The winemaker

Founded in 1923, Domaine Dugat became Domaine Dugat Py in 1994, when Bernard Dugat decided to add his wife's maiden name to his own. A descendant of a winemaking family established in Gevrey-Chambertin since the 17th century, he expanded the family domaine with the acquisition of plots in prestigious appellations such as Meursault and Pommard in 2003, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Morgeot in 2004 and Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru Sous Frétille and Corton-Charlemagne in 2011. Today, Dugat Py wines are among the most emblematic of the Côte de Nuits appellation, and some rare vintages are becoming particularly hard to find.

The producer

The estate is now run by Bernard's son Loïc. He represents the thirteenth generation of winemakers in the family. Combining the knowledge acquired during viticulture studies with experience gained with his parents since 1996 and the transmission of longstanding family know-how, he has forged his own style over time.

He works in the purest Burgundian tradition, producing powerful, fleshy, colorful wines with great elegance. They reveal their full potential after at least 6 to 8 years of ageing.

The estate

The vineyard comprises two grape varieties: Pinot Noir for the reds and Chardonnay for the whites, with vines averaging 65 years of age on the estate. The first parcels were converted to organic farming in 1999, and the entire estate has been certified since 2003.

The domaine's wines are aged for 18 to 24 months in the vaulted cellars of the old village's Aumônerie, built in the 11th and 12th centuries. They are sold not only in France, but all over the world. The domaine exports its cuvées to 31 countries.

The wines
The domaine produces wines under 15 appellations, including several prestigious Grand Crus and Premiers Crus, such as Petite Chapelle, Lavaux Saint Jacques and Chambertin, as well as village appellations. Some years see the creation of additional Crus. In 1996 and 2009, for example, the estate produced Fonteny.

Dugat-Py wines also have excellent ageing potential, requiring at least 6 to 8 years of ageing to express their full purity and rich aromatic bouquet.

Some cuvées have been hailed by critics, such as the Grand Cru Mazis Chambertin millésime 2014, which scored top marks in the Revue des Vins de France. It's a wine of great elegance, offering intense fruitiness and coated tannins with a savory finish.

The Chambertin millésime 2013 also scores 20/20. This is a powerful wine with good length on the palate, a firm structure and a spicy note with vegetal nuances.

Dugat Py Mazoyères Chambertin millésime 2009 is a Côte de Nuits red 100% Pinot noir. It's a wine with power, spicy notes and woody aromas. A perfect accompaniment to game or poultry.
