The winemaker

History

Let's go back a few decades and find ourselves on June 30, 1931. Thanks to a hundred winegrowers of Buxy, the cellar sees the day and appears to everyone as the solution to many problems. Indeed, in the south of Burgundy, many of them were facing difficulties in their trade, especially in the field of wine making, storage and marketing.
All of them were then determined to make this cooperative work, even if it required a lot of perseverance.

Victim of its success, the cellar of the Winegrowers of Buxy receiving all the harvests of its members, also knows problems of storage. We will then go as far as to store wines in tanker wagons in Buxy station. This was probably a surreal scene, but it saved time, because in the 1940s, the cellar gradually expanded and storage became easier.

In 1968, the management of the cooperative is henceforth on the shoulders of Mr. Roger Rageot, then first director elected by the board of directors. The structure changed but the challenge remained the same: to offer the best of Buxy's winemakers.

And this desire still persists today since very recently (2013), the cooperative has committed itself to a sustainable development approach, which moreover resulted in 2020, thus obtaining the title of Vignerons Engagés.

Together, we go further...

More than committed winemakers, it is decisions and investments that forge the reputation of this cooperative. In 2019 took place the inauguration of a new tasting space (Maison Millebuis), showing everyone the vocation of the Vignerons de Buxy to also offer ever more surprising wine tourism services. But that's not all, the winemaking methods have also improved with recent facilities (barrel park, new vats, larger cellar,...), up to the ambitions of the cooperative.

Ambitions that have not changed since 1931, based on 3 very precise criteria: People at the heart of the project, innovation and the quality of the wines. The cellar counts about 200 winegrowers from the Mâconnais and the Côte Chalonnaise, on 1,100 hectares, who are all committed to revealing the potential of their terroirs, as varied as they are qualitative. Vignerons de Buxy is therefore a cooperative that brings together a unique know-how, composed of many generations that have succeeded each other, passing on the best viticultural practices.

All these family farms (20 hectares on average) allow the cellar to sell about 7 million bottles per year and this, all over the world!

The appellations represented are prestigious : Montagny, Givry, Mercurey, Rully... A range of Premier Cru which will delight all wine lovers.
