The winemaker
A cooperative winery that has brought winegrowers together for generations
In 1997, the winegrower-cooperators of the caves de Prissé, Sologny and Verzé decided to pool their specific strengths and know-how. At the time, these three cooperatives produced 1.3 million bottles. A century later, almost 6 million bottles are produced each year, generating sales of 24 million euros. Each winery had its own particular winemaking tool, but was not equipped alone to really launch into marketing. It was by joining forces that they gradually achieved such impressive results.
Since 2007, Michel Barraud has been President of the Cave Coopérative, and continues to work hard to maintain this harmony. In concrete terms, the production tools of each of the three wineries have been preserved and put to good use within the cooperative. Sologny processes crémants and red wines, Verzé white wines and Prissé selected Mâcon-Villages, Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé. Finally, bottling takes place at Prissé. It's this precise, meticulous organization that has enabled the winery to grow so rapidly.
A singular approach, an original project
Since the early 20th century, these Vignerons des Terres Secrètes are men and women from the Mâconnais region, driven by the same passion for the land, who work together in exceptional vineyards. Their commitment to this winery is first and foremost a human adventure. Indeed, these men and women must work in a cooperative spirit, without losing sight of the company's economic performance. It's a human adventure rooted in a sustainable development approach.
In fact, the Vignerons des Terres Secrètes winery has been awarded the Vignerons en Développement durable label. This charter is based on a profound respect for biodiversity, which translates into the implementation of methods adapted and calibrated to the different needs of the territory, such as plowing and grassed rows to limit the use of chemicals. These winegrowers must therefore take into account the impact of each of their actions on the environment.
The richness of terroirs
Situated between the Saône and Grosne rivers, the Mâconnais vineyards are rooted in clay-limestone soils. Les Terres Secrètes located in Prissé, is the second largest cooperative player in the Mâconnais with 900 hectares of vines. Finally, close to the land and meticulously following each plot, the Terres Secrètes winemakers have an almost perfect knowledge of their parcels, offering numerous wine appellations: Saint-Véran, Pouilly-Fuissé, Mâcon... in white wines, Mâcon, Bourgogne, Pinot Noir and Passetoutgrain in red wines, and Crémant de Bourgogne in sparkling wines.
