The winemaker

Since 1748, our forefathers have worked hard to pass on and preserve our storied heritage. For us, the winegrowing profession was a natural part of our childhood. That's why we've developed our vineyard and marketing activities, to pay tribute to our forebears who passed on their passion to us. Our experience in winegrowing practices has led us to promote a viticulture of excellence. Our estate is working to promote a more authentic taste, while ensuring that our artisanal production continues to be certified as High Environmental Value (HVE) level 3 and Viticulture Durable en Champagne (VDC) since 2016. This rigorous approach frames all our practices and contributes to the enhancement of our estate, and the health of consumers. Our ambition is to extract the very best by producing quality wines with exceptional flavors. Traditional methods (tilling the soil, mowing, planting cover crops, thinning out the leaves in summer, spreading manure, etc.) are part of our daily routine. Our desire to respect the environment and human health is reflected in everything we do. CULTIVATING FORGOTTEN GRAPE VARIETIES They are called Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Arbanne and Petit Meslier, and are grown on our "Sur Mont Coppé" Monopole plot at Ville-sur-Arce in Côte des Bar. This very rare mention (Monopole) indicates full ownership of our parcel by Champagne Daniel Pétré & Fils. We're the only ones to produce Champagne on this plot, and we're the only ones to enjoy this terroir in the Champagne appellation. From this parcel we produce several different cuvées: 100% Pinot Blanc 100% Pinot Gris l'Atypique The above cuvées all bear the hallmarks of exclusivity, provenance and belonging to our family estate. This galipe has historically belonged to our family for many generations. Forgotten grape varieties are ancient grape varieties that were once traditionally cultivated and today represent 0.003% of the Champagne Appellation. These grape varieties offer us an exceptional winemaking panel with splendid aromas. OUR SOILS Our estate is rooted on some twenty hectares, between Ville sur Arce and Essoyes, in the heart of the Côte des Bar. With a total of 72%, Pinot-Noir makes up the majority of the vineyard, Chardonnay 22% and Meunier 1.5%. Rare and ancient grape varieties (Arbanne, Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris) account for 4.5% of our estate. Our vines are 30 years old on average, facing South, South-East, at an altitude of around 250 metres, with medium to steep slopes (up to 44%). As the estate's plots are by nature highly diversified, each vineyard develops its own characteristics. The soils are rich in clay on well-drained subsoils. There are 3 main types of soil: Jurassic hard clay-limestone, marly limestone and, more commonly, Kimmeridgian, recognized as the source of the finest sparkling wines. They are found on many of our hillsides, forming the inimitable matrix of the great wines of Champagne Daniel Pétré & Fils.
