The winemaker

History

The Le Brun de Neuville house is the result of a crossroads of several destinies. It was built by men and women whose vocation was to make great wines. They all wanted to make their own contribution, and came together to take things further.

Here we are, a few decades back, 1963 to be precise. In the village of Bethon, winegrowing families were selling their grapes to other organizations. Tired of this and with the aim of acquiring more efficient tools, several winegrowers came together under the same banner and thus created the origins of Le Brun de Neuville. At the outset, 28 winegrowers with a passion for wine got together to communicate on winemaking techniques, but also to help each other with equipment.

Over time, this veritable family grew, with dozens of winemakers joining the ranks to reach 170 today. Sharing their knowledge and expertise, they enable Le Brun de Neuville to produce fabulous wines that exceed the expectations of tasters the world over every year.

It's with great fervor for wine that these winemakers reveal the oh-so-important potential of Chardonnay, so prevalent in this part of Champagne to produce Blanc de Blancs.

Together, we go further

Chardonnay accounts for 90% of Le Brun de Neuville's vineyard. The remaining 10% of its 152 hectares is made up entirely of Pinot Noir, which completes the picture as a red grape variety. Planted for over 40 years in the hollow of the Sézanne hillside, the vines are planted on a variety of crus (12 to be exact) with their own distinctive characteristics.

The Côte de Sézanne also has its own particularities, notably a highly porous soil that stores water to create a reserve. This reserve is used by the vines throughout the year to maintain an adequate supply of nutrients. Add to this the perfect exposure to the sun, and you have quality grapes.

Sustainable viticulture is also an important commitment for Le Brun de Neuville. Together, the winemakers have achieved Haute Valeur Environnementale certification, which prohibits the use of herbicides and requires mechanical weeding. It is on these more environmentally-friendly practices that the house wants to accentuate its actions.

In the cellar, the winemaking teams are busy unveiling the richness of terroir and Chardonnay. Every year, fantastic Blanc de Blancs are created, with a focus on finesse and elegance... Quite simply, it's the fruit of a collective commitment to excellence.
