The winemaker

The great story of Champagne Napoléon

Napoleon 1st drank only two wines: pinot noirs from Chambertin, and champagne. The house that bears his name began its activity, like a tribute, in 1825. Since then, more than five generations have succeeded one another, perfecting a recognized tradition.

Terroir and vineyard characteristics

From Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the two noble and traditional grape varieties from which the best Champagne wines are made, Vertus-based Maison Napoléon produces a number of wines that are both distinctive and highly typified. The particular minerality of the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims is preserved by ageing in stainless steel tanks. Aging lasts over 36 months, instead of the 15 recommended by the appellation's specifications.

The estate's wines

Four champagnes make up the Maison Napoléon range. The cuvée Tradition is a balance of grape varieties, between power and freshness. Cuvée Blanc de Blancs, with its great freshness, is the ideal companion for aperitifs. The brut rosé brings to those who appreciate it the red fruit notes typical of the Champagne hillsides. Last but not least, the 2004 vintage surprises with its complexity and strong minerality.
