The Tarlant Champagne estate is located in Oeuilly, in the Marne valley. This winegrowing estate has a long history, dating back to 1687, and has been managed by the Tarlant family since its creation. Benoît and Mélanie Tarlant, the current owners, took over the estate from their parents. They are the twelfth generation of winemakers to run the House. Tarlant champagnes are recognizable by their authenticity and freshness. They are deliberately low dosage champagnes, to obtain natural, straightforward cuvées. Find out more

The winemaker

The domain

The wine estate comprises 14 hectares spread over 55 parcels in the Marne valley. The vineyards are planted with traditional Champagne varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, as well as forgotten varieties such as Arbane, Pinot Blanc and Petit Meslier.
Brother and sister share the running of the family Champagne House. Benoit is in charge of production and Mélanie is responsible for marketing. She has made the excellence of Tarlant champagnes known throughout the world, and in the most demanding guides and specialized magazines. The Parker Guide, Bettane & Desseauve and the Revue des Vins de France regularly cite Tarlant cuvées among the exceptional champagnes to discover.

Skills

The Tarlant Champagne House's attachment to tradition is strong, and the care given to the vines is constant and rigorous. The estate is run using viticulture raisonnée methods that preserve the environment and enhance the quality of the terroir.
Benoit Tarlant is the estate's winemaker, favoring long ageing and working most of his champagnes in wood, obtaining powerful, well-balanced cuvées. He is also experimenting with amphora vinification, after discovering the Italian white wines of Domaine Foradori.
Tarlant champagnes are produced using a parcel-by-parcel approach, to support the expression of each terroir, and are all low dosage or no dosage at all. The Tarlant house was a forerunner in this field, offering non-dosed champagnes as early as the 1970s.

Tarlant Champagnes

La cuvée Zéro is a brut nature champagne renowned for its vivacity and freshness. It is blended from three typically Champagne grape varieties, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir. Cuvées are matured in stainless-steel vats, as well as in oak barrels. This is a champagne without any dosage, so its personality is fully expressed. It has a beautiful gold color with green highlights and very fine bubbles. The nose is elegant and tangy, with aromas of tangerine and lemon, as well as hints of honey and wax. Enjoy it as an aperitif, or with a platter of oysters.

The Cuvée Zéro is also produced in rosé with a blend predominantly of 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir. This is a champagne with a brilliant coral color, offering fine bubbles and aromas of blood orange, red fruits and light spicy notes. It has a silky texture and intense structure. Ideal with red fruit desserts.

Tarlant, La Matinale 2003 is a champagne made from grapes harvested in the morning, due to the particular climatic conditions of 2003 having combined a harsh winter and a scorching summer. The blend is made from the three grape varieties grown on the estate. Pinot Noir brings power and structure, Pinot Meunier gives fruit and Chardonnay tension and freshness. This is a generous champagne with a golden color and lively bubbles. It offers aromas of dried flowers and notes of ripe yellow fruit. Enjoy it with seafood or a platter of sushi.
