(3 customer reviews)
The Champagne Delamotte house was founded in Reims in 1760, which makes it the fifth oldest champagne house. Since that time, the house has produced four delicate and elegant cuvées, whose quality remains constant, always in excellence: Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Blancs Millésimé, Brut and Rosé. The winemaker

The history of the Delamotte Champagne House

François Delamotte, then a vineyard owner, founded his Champagne house in 1760. Born in Reims in 1722, he became a councilor-echevin and captain of the bourgeois militia. When he set up his Champagne house, he chose a building located at the corner of the rue Cérès and the rue des Marmousets, where his private mansion was built, but also, above the cellars. François chooses his own name and baptizes his house: Champagne Delamotte.

He adds to this name his family coat of arms whose motto is "Vive et me ama", "Live and love me". He then joined forces with his eldest son Alexandre and created Delamotte Père & Fils. His second son, Nicolas, joined them in 1798. He is in charge of the expansion of the marketing of the house's wines. He distributes Champagne Delamotte throughout Europe, then in other more distant countries.

Champagne Delamotte is then taken over by Marie-Louise de Nonancourt, née Lanson. Her descendant, Charles, took over the business between 1948 and 1988. Champagne Delamotte and the Champagne house Salon then unite their destinies. In 1988, Bernard de Nonancourt created the Laurent-Perrier group of which the two houses are part. Since 1997, Didier Depond has been in charge of them.

The different champagnes of the Delamotte house

Delamotte Brut Champagne

Champagne Delamotte Brut is made from 55% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier. The Chardonnay establishes the foundation of structure, the Pinot Noir provides depth and fruity aroma, and the Pinot Meunier provides aromatic density. Champagne Delamotte Brut is fresh and round, with a long fruity finish. Serve it ideally at 8°C to enjoy its exceptionally pure nose. You will detect notes of citrus, white flowers and lemon peel.

Champagne Delamotte Brut is best enjoyed as an aperitif, with cheese gougères and parmesan tuiles. For dinner, it will be wonderful with a cheese soufflé or a paella. It is best served with desserts that are not very sweet, such as fresh fruit salad.

The Champagne Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Millesimé

Champagne Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Millésimé is made entirely of Chardonnay. It takes the time to age for years - six on average - on the lees. The wine's fine, lively bubbles enhance its nose of lemon, English candy and lychee aromas. Its long finish is mineral, punctuated by a zest of bitter orange.

Champagne Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Millésimé excels alongside a scallop carpaccio, with oysters or a salmon terrine. You can also pair it with fine Italian charcuterie, such as a large Parma ham or Culatello.
