(9 customer reviews)
Since 1993, Piper-Heidsieck has been the official supplier to the most legendary of international film festivals: the Cannes Film Festival. Did you know that it is also one of the oldest Champagne houses? It was founded by Florens-Louis Heidsieck in Reims in 1785. It was acquired by the Rémy Cointreau group in 1988. In July 2011, it was sold to the French luxury goods group EPI (Entreprise Patrimoniale d'Investissements), controlled by the Descours family. Find out more

The winemaker

The short story of Piper-Heidsieck's birth

It all began with Florens-Louis Heidsieck setting up as a draper in Reims, where he fell in love with a Champagne girl. But he also fell in love with Champagne wine. Driven by passion, he decided to create a cuvée "worthy of a queen". In 1785, he founded the "Champagne Heidsieck & Cie" cloth and wine trading house. It was then that he became a master of his art, to the point of having the honor of personally presenting his own wine to Queen Marie-Antoinette. After a number of years, separations, acquisitions and family histories, Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck are once again united in the EPI group, owned by the Descours family. Heidsieck & Cie Monopole is now owned by Vranken.

The Piper-Heidsieck winery

Régis Camus, one of Champagne's most respected personalities. He has been voted the world's best sparkling winemaker eight times (International Wine Challenge). Régis Camus joined Heidsieck in 1994, and has been involved in the construction of a precision winery since 1995. The latter is an otherworldly setting with metal walkways. This impressive sanctuary features different sizes of temperature-controlled vats. At the center of the winery are two huge blending vats. Each cru and varietal has its own vat. The winemaking process is slow and respectful of the characteristics of each cru. Around a hundred crus are needed to create the famous "Cuvée Brut".

The Champagne Brut Piper-Heidsieck

Declined under the Piper range, this champagne is a great classic with an alcohol content of 12%. It develops bright white floral notes evolving to a fruitier flavor. "The brut sans année accounts for at least 85% of our sales. It must be beyond reproach. It's the cuvée I spend the most time on and am most proud of," explains cellar master Régis Camus. It's a real challenge to produce an identical cuvée every year, given that climatic conditions change from one harvest to the next. It is sold in 750 ml glass bottles. He has achieved an annual production of 9,000,000 bottles.

Piper-Heidsieck is also renowned for its vintage cuvées. Indeed, they are extraordinary and crafted to perfection. All vintages have their own name, for the simple reason that they are all unique. They age in our cellars for 6 to 10 years.
