The winemaker

A history of men and land

Behind the Casanova brand is the Cave Coopérative d'Aghione, created in 1975 by 12 families of winegrowers. With a vineyard of 850 hectares, divided into three distinct terroirs (Aghione with sandy soils, Alzitone with clay soils and Leptinique with a rocky and mountainous subsoil), the cooperative is a major economic player on the island. In 2006, 41 years after the creation of the Cave Coopérative, the Casanova brand was created. Through this brand, the Vignerons d'Aghione seek above all to highlight the richness of the Corsican soil through traditional wines but also surprising novelties.

The cooperative winegrowers, through various eco-responsible approaches such as the grassing of plots, were for example the first in Corsica to obtain the recognition Emergence GIEE. They have also joined the Vignerons Engagés collective, the first CSR network in the wine industry, and obtained HVE certification for 25% of the vineyard. In addition to this, they have obtained EVE VEGAN certification and the conversion of a winegrower to organic farming, which is a test for the whole cooperative.

A wide variety of ranges

Domaine Casanova produces many wines relying on island grape varieties in their blends, such as Nielluccu, Sciaccarellu and Vermentinu. There are also sparkling wines, such as Muscatu Frizzante or Aria and Excellence, with a natural bubble obtained with an ancestral method of wine making. Among the still wines, Casanova offers red, white and rosé wines. Casanova's ranges, from Casanova Premium to A Rena d'Oru to Costa d'Oru, all have their own distinct characteristics. The blends vary, as do the winemaking and harvesting methods. This allows Domaine Casanova to offer both "premium" and local wines.

A pioneering spirit

Innovation is the spearhead of Domaine Casanova. The 20. Orange, the first orange wine without sulfite, is for example a novel concept offered by the Vignerons d'Aghione. A member of the "surprising wines" range, 20. Orange is accompanied by Cuve Ex17 (a preservative-free rosé) and Vindigène (produced only with a native Corsican grape variety). In 2007, the cooperative also marketed the first Corsican gray rosé wine, Tendance Casanova, which quickly became one of the brand's best sellers.

But Domaine Casanova is not only a pioneer in the production of new wines. The brand also has a strong presence on social media, through several innovative marketing campaigns. The latest, #CASANOVASTORIES, offers its community a playful journey through Instagram: users are asked to choose from two "tags" under each post to continue their experience of responsible consumption awareness. After #diycasanova, 4 videos that teach how to reuse empty bottles and corks, Domaine Casanova reaffirms its commitment to the eco-responsible and innovative era.
