The winemaker

The Producer

Located in the heart of Montigny-les-Arsures, in the Jura, Domaine du Pelican is a young vineyard, replanted in 2001 and now owned by Guillaume d'Angerville and François Duvivier. Guillaume d'Angerville, nationally recognized for producing the best of Volnay in his Côte de Beaune, fell in love with this very special parcel of Jura.

This love story is quite amusing, it is indeed during a blind tasting in Paris that Guillaume d'Angerville thinks he recognizes a Burgundy until the sommelier tells him the Jura origin of the wine. It was then that he realized the potential of this little-known region and decided to acquire plots there.

After taking over the legendary old vines of Jacques Puffeney, a historic figure in Arbois viticulture, our duo began producing their first wines, which show great technical mastery and radiant expression, a humble tribute to the great classics of the region.

The Commitments

A lover of wine as much as of life, Guillaume d'Angerville is not at his first winery with Domaine du Pelican. Indeed, he is one of the pillars of the family estate Marquis d'Angerville in Volnay in the Cotes de Beaune.

Moreover, the Domaine du Pélican stands out for its symbiosis between technology and the power of nature. Indeed, when it was bought in 2001, the estate benefited from state-of-the-art equipment (all wine movements by gravity, pneumatic press, two vibrating sorting tables, ultra-modern destemmer...). But above all, the terroir of this exceptional domain left to the abandonment by its former owner turns out to be in a particularly wild and natural state (and therefore organic).

This legacy allows d'Angerville and Duvivier to apply a biodynamic philosophy (as at the Marquis d'Angerville estate) in order to present wines that perfectly embody their terroir. This philosophy is followed to the letter according to the lunar calendar of biodynamic principles since 2006.

The terroir

Located in an exceptional territory of the Jura, the Pelican estate covers 15 hectares, of which 11 are white and 4 are red. The grape varieties of Pinot noir (45% of the reds) and Savagnin (60% of the whites) are the dominant ones.

The wines

The Domaine du Pélican Arbois Savagnin is endowed with the king grape of the Jura (the Savagnin), it is the most typical of the region. This grape allows the vinification of a powerful and complex wine. We feel notes of apricot perfume, but also sensual to offer an alert body whose tannins are developed by the acidic touch of the wine.

The Domaine du Pélican Arbois Chardonnay stands out with its fruity nose and tannins that soar through the juice's underlying acidity.
