The winemaker

If there are historic winegrowing sites in France, Château Auzias is certainly one of them. Ancient writings mention the existence of a splendid Gallo-Roman villa on the estate, built at the time of the Gallic Wars and destroyed by the Visigoth invaders in 450 AD. Construction of the estate began in the 12th century, at the height of the Cathar period, when the land was donated to the Church, which established the Notre dame de Pareti Longi Priory. The château and cellars were built under the 1st Empire by the Castel family. And so, through the ages, the good family management of this great estate ensured its longevity. At the very beginning of this century and new millennium, Château Auzias-Paretlongue, one of the most prestigious estates in the Cabardès region, is one of the largest privately-owned winegrowing estates in the Languedoc, with 160 hectares in a single block.
