The winemaker

The Producer

The first and only communal appellation in the Languedoc since 2015, La Clape has had vines for 2000 years. It was indeed Julius Caesar who offered the mountain of La Clape to soldiers of the 10th legion who planted vines there. The grape variety planted there was Bourboulenc, a grape variety that would give wisdom to its drinkers according to Greek mythology. The property passed through various hands until the Revolution, and was eventually taken over by Barthélémy Étienne d'Anglès, who passed it on within his family despite some divisions.

Today it is Eric and Vianney Fabre who run Château d'Anglès, which produces under the communal appellation La Clape.

Covering 42 hectares, the estate produces 180,000 bottles per year.

The terroir

Located on the heights of the Languedoc, Château d'Anglès covers 42 hectares of vineyards with Grenache noir (40%) and Syrah (40%) as the dominant grape varieties for the red as well as Bourboulenc (50%) and Grenache blanc (30%) for the white.

The exposure of the plots allows them to soak up the sun for 300 days a year but also to benefit from a cooling Mediterranean breeze. Between the limestone pebbles and the teeming aromatic garrigues, the vines enjoy the harmony of all these elements of nature.

The wine

The Château d'Anglès Grand Vin grew up in a warm climate and matured for a long time at the end of the season in order to benefit from a limpid color, a complex nose oscillating between white fruits, flowers and sweet spices. The old vines of Bourboulenc (40%) and Grenache (20%) give it this ample and structured mouthfeel to be enjoyed young or with more complexity after 5-10 years.

The Château d'Anglès Classique (Blanc) is like the Grand vin, although it has more Bourboulenc (50%) and Grenache (30%), giving it a more gourmet and fresh mouthfeel. Thus, it is appropriate to wait a few years (5) to taste it on the fruit.

The Château d'Anglès Classique (Red)grew in a warm climate and matured for a long time at the end of the season in order to benefit from a red and black tinted color, its nose exhaling aromas of red and ripe fruits, as well as spices.

The Château d'Anglès Classique (Rosé)grew up dazzling with sunshine and limestone. The dominance of Mourvèdre (80%) and its rapid vinification give it a brilliant, flamingo color and a nose of citrus. The result is a long and fresh aromatic richness in the mouth.
