Since its creation in the 19th century, Château Montana has been through many trials and tribulations. In 1996, following a change of ownership, it was completely renovated. Restructuring the 30 hectares or so of vineyards and purchasing new vats enabled the estate to get back on its feet. Find out more

The winemaker

Chateau Montana soil and vineyard


At Château Montana, it's humans who adapt to the vine's natural cycle, not the other way around. Built in the Aspres region, south of Perpignan, this magnificent vineyard covers some 30 hectares. Resting on soils combining clay and limestone, the vines reach for the sky. Taking full advantage of this ecosystem halfway between mountain and sea, they produce firm, flavorful grapes. Surrounded by an AOC zone, Château Montana cultivates grape varieties intrinsically linked to this region.

Carignan, Grenache noir, blanc and gris are just some of the grape varieties found on this estate. To bring a little variety to his production, owner Patrick Saurel has added other grape varieties. Outside the appellation zone, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Merlot and Cabernet-sauvignon are grown by hand.

Chateau Montana wines


La soif des hommes is an IGP Vins de Pays des Côtes Catalanes produced at Château Montana. Round on the palate, it stands out from the competition with its end notes reminiscent of the tropics. Alongside it, six other wines are the pride of the estate: AOC Muscat de Rivesaltes (AOC Muscat de Rivesaltes), Astre blanc (AOC Côtes du Roussillon), cuvée l'Astre rouge (AOC Côtes du Roussillon Villages), La fontaine des demoiselles, Sweet de Montana (AOC Rivesaltes) and Silencio (AOC Côtes du Roussillon Villages).
