The winemaker

The history of the Château Puech-Haut estate

The vineyard was founded by Gérard Bru who, after a career in commerce, wanted to invest in working his Languedoc soil to bring out all its richness, as his grandfather had done before him. He began by buying a parcel of land on which he replaced the olive trees with vines. The château then replaced the farmhouse. The Puech-Haut adventure begins!

When Gérard Bru acquired the land for Château Puech-Haut, it was covered with garrigue and olive trees. The vines thrived and began to produce quality grapes for a Languedoc wine that soon became renowned, Château Puech-Haut.

The Puech-Haut vineyard covers 184 hectares, including 92 in Saint-Drézéry and 19 in Pic Saint-Loup. The vines benefit from the Mediterranean climate that so suits them so well. The soil here is the same as that of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, consisting of clay and limestone, covered with rolled pebbles.

The vineyards of Château Puech-Haut

Puech-Haut's grape varieties are selected in accordance with the terroir. The average age of the vines is 35 years. The terroir is divided into three parcels. The vast majority of the vineyard is planted with red grapes: Syrah for 60%, Grenache for 25%, Mourvèdre for 10% and Carignan for 5%. The remaining white grapes are 60% Roussanne, 30% Marsanne and 10% Grenache.

The domaine produces an average of 500,000 bottles a year, without chemical weedkillers. The grapes are harvested by hand, then the wine is aged in wooden barrels and vats.

Puech-Haut wines

Puech-Haut produces red, rosé and white wines. They are renowned for being fleshy and silky with tannins. Cuvée Tête de Bélier is the flagship wine of the Puech-Haut estate. It is available in all three dresses.

Tête de Bélier de Puech-Haut Blanc

Tête de Bélier de Puech Haut Blanc is a blend of Roussanne, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier. Its color is a warm golden yellow. The nose is complex, combining yellow-fleshed fruit, gingerbread and honey, with fine woody notes. The palate is full and supple, always fresh, with a rounded finish. This well-balanced wine is ideal with creamy fish and soft cheeses.

Tête de Bélier de Puech-Haut Rouge

Tête de Bélier de Puech Haut Rouge is the result of a blend of 70% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 8% Mourvèdre and 2% Carignan. It has an intense garnet-red color with purple highlights. The nose is filled with scents of ripe black berries, supported by woody notes. An intense, generous wine, with a rich aromatic palette of red and black fruits, sweet spices and toast. Puech-Haut's Tête de Bélier red is perfect with characterful cheeses like Munster or Camembert.

Tête de Bélier de Puech-Haut Rosé

A blend of Mourvèdre and Grenache, Puech-Haut Rosé is imbued with aromas of citrus and tart berries. This complex wine is the perfect accompaniment to aperitifs, salads, prawns and salmon en papillote.
