The winemaker

The history of Domaine de l'Arjolle

Domaine de l'Arjolle was born in 1974, founded by brothers Prosper and Louis-Marie Teisserenc. The winemakers' strategy was to renew the grape varieties in their vineyards. They began by adopting Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. Their aim was to enrich the Côtes de Thongue appellation. As early as 1978 and their first vintage, the wine they produced began to make a name for itself.

In 1982, Château de Margon, just three kilometers from Domaine de l'Arjolle, came into the hands of the brothers. In 1985, the team was reinforced by two new partners, Charles Duby and Guilhem de Fozières. It was under their impetus that a thorough rethinking of the way in which the vineyard was run was carried out. It was then decided to adopt the Terra Vitis sustainable agriculture charter.

In the meantime, Louis-Marie Teisserenc traveled as far as California, from where he brought back the black Zinfandel grape variety, very popular on the West Coast of the United States. One hectare was planted on Domaine de l'Arjolle, giving birth to the atypical Z de l'Arjolle, unique in France.

In 1986, Prosper's son Roland Teisserenc joined the team, followed in 2004 by Louis-Marie's son François and Prosper's other son Roch, adding ten new hectares to Domaine de l'Arjolle. In 2014, Louis-Marie's other son Simon and Geoffroy de La Besnardière also joined the family.

The Domaine de l'Arjolle vineyard

The vineyard is run ecologically, with total transparency towards the consumer. Every effort is made to respect flora and fauna. The grape varieties are diversified. It is made up of the traditional Syrah and Grenache, accompanied by other grape varieties from other French wine-growing regions such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Viognier, Muscat, Cabernet and Merlot.

The estate also boasts two grape varieties that are much more exotic to these Occitan lands: the American Zinfandel and Carménère, also American, but from Latin America, as it is Chilean.

The wines of Domaine de l'Arjolle

The Z of Domaine de l'Arjolle - red

Unique in France and made entirely from the Californian grape variety Zinfandel, the Z boasts a dark color. The nose is refined and complex, full of ripe fruit and oriental spices. The palate is ample and voluminous, with a crescendo progression that delights the taste buds.

A few mellow tannins further enrich the experience. Z is an invigorating wine, always harmonious. It's perfect for exotic cuisine, paella, beef curry and chocolate desserts.

Équinoxe Merlot

Équinoxe is made entirely from Merlot. It boasts a magnificent, bright ruby color. Its nose is complex, marked by jammy red fruits.

The attack on the palate is generous, with increasing fullness. The tannins are generous and mature. Domaine de l'Arjolle's Équinoxe goes well with filet mignon and leg of lamb with figs and honey.
