The winemaker

The History of Domaine de La Rectorie

Domaine de La Rectorie was founded in 1984. Marc Parcé had settled in Banyuls sur Mer in 1976 and had asked his brother Thierry to join him in 1981 to replace a sick worker. However, the farm was insufficient to support two families, so Thierry left for three years to work on another estate.

This experience allowed him to learn a lot about the winegrower's profession, as well as to imagine the future cellar of the Domaine de La Rectorie. What remained was to find a few hectares of vines to complete the terroir. Thus, rather than taking the grapes to the cooperative, Domaine de La Rectorie was born, with its own means to make its wine.

The adventure was launched in 1984. Marc and Thierry have since worked hard to create from scratch a domain producing reputable wines and their children have now joined them.

The Domaine de La Rectorie vineyard

The vineyard of Domaine de La Rectorie is made up of about thirty parcels. Their diversity is an asset to produce wines with well-defined and unique characters. The terroirs are at various altitudes, some overlooking the sea, and the vines are scattered on hillsides and terraces.

The terroirs of Domaine de la Rectorie are divided into three main parts: the Janési sector, overlooked by the Barlande parcel, the Abeilles Valley vineyard, and the Cosprons vineyard.

The various orientations of the plots allow us to choose the grape varieties according to the sunshine and to take into account the global warming which generates increasingly dry soils. By selecting the parcels most sheltered from the sun, the wines of Domaine de La Rectorie retain their finesse and freshness.

The soil is generally poor, made up of Cambrian schists, in a very thin layer of sandy clay resting on the parent rock. The vines are able to root deeply to get the moisture and nutrients they need. The main grape variety is Grenache. It is completed by Mourvèdre, Carignan and Syrah. The grapes are harvested by hand.

The wines of Domaine de La Rectorie

L'Argile - AOC Collioure Blanc

L'Argile du Domaine de la Rectorie is a white wine belonging to the AOC Collioure. It is composed of a blend of 90% Grenache Gris and 10% Grenache Blanc. The nose is rich in white fruits. It offers iodine and aniseed notes that give it a unique flavor. The mouth is dense, with a salinity that returns discreetly. The wine is fresh, with just the right amount of minerality. Clay can be drunk young, but also holds up very well to cellaring.

AOC Banyuls -Thérèse Reig red

The AOC Banyuls Thérèse Reig is composed of 90% Grenache Noir and 10% Carignan from the oldest vines of Domaine de La Rectorie. It is a very fruity wine. The nose is full of red fruits, like blackberry and blackcurrant. They are found in the mouth, with a rich and greedy texture, typical of Grenache Noir.
