The winemaker

The history of the Grange des Pères

The history of Grange des Pères is a recent one, as the estate was founded in 1988. Laurent Vaillé, who had just graduated in physiotherapy, decided to take over his father's cereal-growing estate rather than lock himself into a practice. He went back to school, but this time to obtain a BTS in viticulture-oenology in Montpellier. To put his theoretical knowledge into practice, he took on internships at various wineries all over France.

From his very first vintage, a red from 1992, Laurent Vaillé was acclaimed for the excellence of his wine. This favorable reception was only the beginning of an exceptional career. On June 26, 1998, Laurent Jacques and Bernard Vaillé became the registered owners of the vineyard.

The Grange des Pères terroir

The Grange des Pères estate is located in the commune of Aniane in the Hérault department. Here, vines are part of the landscape and culture of the region's inhabitants. The monks of the two abbeys dating back to the Carolingian Empire, the Abbaye de Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and the Abbaye Saint-Benoît d'Aniane, have always cultivated grapes. The wine produced by Grange des Pères corresponds to the appellation of vin de pays de l'Hérault. The estate covers 15 hectares: 13 hectares of red and the rest of white. It is divided into small plots with limestone, clay-limestone or pebble soil.

The red grape varieties are: 40% Syrah; 40% Mourvèdre; 10% Cabernet Sauvignon; 10% Counoise; and a small production of Petit Verdot. For the whites: 80% Roussanne; 15% Marsanne; and the rest Gros Manseng and Chardonnay. Domaine de la Grange des Père produces 30,000 bottles of red and 5,000 bottles of white each year.

The Grange des Pères wines

La Grange des Pères in red

The Grange des Pères red wine is a dense garnet color, with hints of violet. Its aromatic expression is complex, with aromas of black fruits: blackberries, blackcurrants and cherries. Spices and hints of licorice are also present. The palate is straightforward and the fine tannins make the beverage particularly suave.

La Grange des Pères in white

The Grange des Pères white wine has a warm yellow color. Its nose reveals candied citrus aromas. It brilliantly combines freshness, fullness and superb length on the palate. The wine is deep and retains a certain nervousness that ages very well.
