The winemaker

The history of the Grange des Pères

The history of the Grange des Pères is recent, as the estate was founded in 1988. Laurent Vaillé, then just graduated in physical therapy, finally decided to take over his father's cereal estate, rather than lock himself in a practice. He resumed his studies, but this time to obtain a BTS in viticulture and oenology in Montpellier. In order to put his theoretical knowledge into practice, he did internships in various wineries throughout France.

From his first vintage, a 1992 red, Laurent Vaillé was acclaimed for the excellence of his wine. This favorable reception is only the beginning of an exceptional journey. On June 26, 1998, the activity of the agricultural exploitation of the culture of the vine is declared, with Laurent Jacques and Bernard Vaillé as managers.

The terroir of the Grange des Pères

The Grange des Pères estate is located in the commune of Aniane in the Hérault department. Here, the vine is part of the landscape and the culture of the inhabitants of the region. The monks of the two abbeys dating from the Carolingian Empire, the Abbey of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and the Abbey of Saint-Benoît d'Aniane, have always cultivated the grape. The wine produced by the Grange des Pères corresponds to the appellation of vin de pays de l'Hérault. The domain covers 15 hectares: 13 hectares in red and the rest in white. It is divided into small parcels with limestone, clay-limestone or pebble soil.

The red grape varieties are : 40 % Syrah ; 40 % Mourvèdre ; 10 % Cabernet Sauvignon ; 10 % Counoise ; and a small production of Petit Verdot. For the whites : 80 % Roussanne ; 15 % Marsanne ; and the rest in Gros Manseng and Chardonnay. The Grange des Père estate produces 30,000 bottles of red and 5,000 bottles of white each year.

The wines of the Grange des Pères

The Grange des Pères in red

The red wine of the Grange des Pères displays a dense garnet color, with reflections evoking purple. Its aromatic expression is complex, with aromas of black fruits: blackberries, black currants and cherries. The spices are not left out, as well as some touches of licorice. The mouth is frank and the fine tannins make the beverage particularly smooth.

Father's Barn White

The Grange des Pères white wine offers a beautiful warm yellow color. Its nose reveals aromas of candied citrus fruits. It brilliantly blends freshness, fatness and superb length in the mouth. The wine is deep and keeps a certain nervousness which ages very well.
