Its name, atypical for a wine estate, is inspired by the containers used as receptacles for the offerings made to the monks who passed from village to village between Saint-Guilhem-Le-Désert and the nearby Pont du Diable. Located in Saint-Jean-de-Fos, Hérault on the Causses du Larzac, owners Geneviève and Laurent Vidal returned to their native land to found their estate, after leaving their previous estate, Auzières. The winemaker

The Domain


The vineyard consists of just under 12 hectares of vines, most of which are planted with red grape varieties. Carignan, Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Syrah are thus spread over 10 hectares. The rest of the estate hosts white grape varieties with Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Vermentino and Petit Manseng.

Mas Conscience implements organic viticulture practices. This approach was started by the previous owners and is still being developed today. The estate works in the spirit of the region's vineyards, seeking finesse and balance rather than raw power. The estate now produces 42,000 bottles.

When they arrived, Geneviève and Laurent Vidal built a new house and state-of-the-art winery facilities, including a magnificent Gard stone cellar with decorative metal details.

The terroirs


The vineyard extends over several communes, thus offering the vines a beautiful diversity of geological and climatic conditions in which to flourish.

In the commune of Aniane, the vines stretch over a semi-slope with limestone scree, clay-limestone soils and many rolled pebbles. On these parcels, Grenache and Syrah are the king grapes with vines averaging 30 years old and Cinsaults 20 years old.

In Puéchabon, the estate's plots are adjacent to renowned estates. Vines were recently planted on this lacustrine limestone plateau, next to very old Cinsault and Vermentino vines that are used to make one of Mas Conscience's signature cuvees, Tapade.

In Saint Jean de Fos finally, seven hectares of the estate stretch near the Hérault River on a terroir of alluvium and rolled pebbles with two hectares of white grape varieties and five of red.

The wines


The estate produces seven well-balanced, finely crafted vintages. Examples include:

The cuvée l'éveil is made from the oldest and most beautiful vines of its terroir. It is made from a blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah. It is an elegant and delicate organic wine with aromas of sun-drenched red fruits and notes of sweet spices.

The cuvée l'in is a white wine in the Vin de pays de l'Hérault appellation, which expresses all the lightness and richness of the aromatic palette of its terroir. Made from parcels of the Larzac terraces, it is a fresh and mineral wine. It is perfect to accompany a grilled fish, a seafood platter or an Asian dish.
