The winemaker
The Story
The first traces of Mas Foulaquier date back to 1445. At the time, it was the property of the Brissac family. It then changed owners often, until the Condamy family, of which André and his father were the last representatives. They exploited its lands until 1974.
In 1998, Pierre Jequier discovered Mas Foulaquier. Passionate about wine, he decided to leave his architect's office to give substance to his dream of exploiting wine-growing lands. He was joined in 2003 by Blandine Chauchat. She was a parliamentary official in Paris and was developing her oenophile skills at the National Assembly club.
Before joining Pierre, she embarked on a BTS in Viticulture and Oenology in Macon and took the time to write a book entitled "Portraits of Winegrowers".
The first vintage of Mas Foulaquier was proposed in 1999. Since then, the vines have aged and improved, while the winemakers have forged their reputation, thanks to hard work. The estate produces a wide variety of wines that have found their place in the Languedoc wine market.
The vineyard
The Mas Foulaquier vineyard covers 13.5 hectares: 12 hectares in red, 1.5 hectares in white. The average annual production is 65,000 bottles. The red grape varieties are : Grenache noir, Pinot noir, Lladoner Pelut, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
The white grape varieties are: Picpoul blanc, Muscat à petits grains blancs, Marsanne, Grenache gris, Grenache blanc, Clairette, Chardonnay, Bourboulenc, Viognier, Vermentino, Terret blanc (Terret Bourret), Sauvignon blanc and Roussanne.
Biodynamics from the creation of Mas Foulaquier
Since Pierre Jequier took over the Mas Foulaquier vineyard, he has decided to cultivate it without chemicals and to use biodynamics. The grapes are harvested by hand and the wines are vinified without oenological products.
Mas Foulaquier obtained organic certification in 2005. The calendar of the winegrowers follows the rhythm of biodynamic sowing. The preparations used for the vines are composed of composted cow dung, silica and decoction of plants and flowers.
The wines of Mas Foulaquier
Les Amours Vendangeurs in Grenache - IGP Saint Guilhem Les Désert Rouge
Les Amours Vendangeurs is produced with the finest Grenache grapes from Mas Foulaquier, aged in terracotta amphorae to magnify the minerality of the wine. It is a red wine, but with a light color. The nose is floral, dominated by rose. The mouth is spicy, with flavors of garrigue and thyme. The wine is mouthwatering and very fresh.
Violetta - IGP Hérault rouge
Violetta is a red wine made from a blend of Carignan and Grenache Noir. It is a greedy wine with a very fruity nose. We find in the mouth the notes of red fruits and spices.
