The winemaker

Welcome to Frédéric Albert's home in Montblanc, in the heart of the Languedoc region. You'll discover a traditional southern French house with thick Basalt walls: Villa Sépia. In business for ten years, he has set himself the goal of producing top-flight cuvées, with a focus on quality rather than quantity.

The Villa Sépia estate

The estate comprises five hectares of vines, among which are a variety of grape varieties. Carginan, but also Grenache, Viognier or Syrah, Sauvignon blanc, and finally Roussanne and Chenin blanc. It's fair to say that a broad spectrum is represented, allowing for the most diverse creations. What all these grape varieties have in common is the care they are given: the vines here are grown without persticides or chemicals. Only with organic products that are acceptable to bees: the estate is certified "Bee Friendly". Fred and Catherine use biodynamic viticulture on this estate located on the upper part of this small village east of Bézier. They look for life in the soils, which are protected by pine woods to encourage biodiversity, and grass and vegetation share the soil with the vines. The vines are carefully nurtured until they reach maturity, and then harvested by hand during the grape harvest.

Winemaking

For Frédéric, the philosophy and choices made in the fields continue in the cellar. No chemical additives, including sulfites, are allowed in the cellar. Villa Sépia wines are full of life and vitality. They are matured according to the same principles used to cultivate the vines, with the strictest respect for nature. The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand, using only the yeasts naturally present in the berries for vinification, to reflect the terroir of the region. These harvests are often the occasion to welcome "Woofers", volunteers who work a few hours a day in exchange for board and lodging, as Fred is keen to share his love of this profession and what he has learned about nature.

Villa Sepia wines

Thanks to the diversity of its grape varieties, the estate offers no less than 9 cuvées. All their names end in "Tick", as this is the affectionate nickname given to Frédéric in the village of Montblanc. The Romantick rosé is a fresh 100% Grenache. For white wines, you can discover Lunatick in the Viognier grape variety, and Poetick in the ancient Terret Bourret grape variety. These are dry whites, but the domaine also offers a sweet white wine, Meetick. As for red wines, Artisitck Charismatick Enigmatick and Galactik each offer a different grape variety, with blends ranging from fruity to spicy, from gourmet to warm. Each one a fine discovery of biodynamic wines.
