Château Du Petit Thouars

4
(10 customer reviews)
Established in the Tourraine AOC, the château highlights Cabernet Franc for the red and rosé, and Chenin for the white. Its wines are elaborated under the watchful eye of Michel Pinard, cellar master whose long experience, forged notably with Charles Joguet, guarantees the best expression of the grape varieties. Many of his wines have been distinguished by the best guides and magazines (such as the Hachette guide, the Revue du Vin de France or Decanter). Find out more

The winemaker

The history of the estate

The Château du Petit Thouars and its vineyard were bought in 1634 by Georges Aubert, a gentleman in the service of Cardinal Richelieu. Georges Aubert became the first lord and made the castle part of the wine history by passing it on from generation to generation.

The descendants of the Petit Thouars family will be, for many, adventurers, and free spirits, the ideal character traits to instill in the rest of the family the attitude to adopt to tame a vineyard. However, the estate remained under-active until the 20th century.

The vineyard is indeed relaunched in 1975 by Yves, former general manager of the Cristalleries de Baccarat. After years of serious and passionate work, the wines of the castle are awarded and appreciated in France as well as in the United States and in China. His son Sébastien took over the family business in 2008, developing the commercial and marketing aspects of the estate.

The Château du Petit Thouars estate is located in the Indre-et-Loire region, on a hillside terroir overlooking the Vienne River. The vineyard is exclusively planted with Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. The wines are mostly produced in AOC Chinon, which is characterized for producing aromatic wines marked by fruit and minerality.

The wines

The Château du Petit Thouars Réserve is a Chinon that exudes a beautiful power all in length, without excluding the roundness or the fruit. There are also delicate woody notes and mellow tannins. Ideal with grilled red meats, stuffed tomatoes or as an aperitif with olive tapenade and poultry terrine.

The Château du Petit Thouars L'épée is a very aromatic little Chinon that gives off a bouquet of small red and black fruits on the nose. On the palate, we find greediness and power, a fleshy wine all in harmony. A good companion for your barbecued brochettes and red meats.

The Mademoiselle du Petit Thouars vintage is the estate's rosé wine. Made from old Cabernet Franc vines, this rosé offers a beautiful freshness and a certain complexity. On the nose as well as on the palate, we find greedy notes of small red fruits, as well as a floral touch. You can enjoy it as an aperitif or with mixed lamb kebabs.

The Crémant Blanc Château du Petit Thouars vintage is made from Cabernet Franc. The color is lime yellow, tending towards brightness. On the nose, we find lively aromas of white flowers. In the mouth, the bubble is fine, the matter is airy and the finish offers mineral notes. Perfect to accompany a fruity pie for dessert or to start an aperitif with dignity.
