The winemaker

The history of the estate

The current Château that dominates the estate today was developed at the end of the 19th century by the Princess of Arenberg, sister of the Duke of Brissac, whose family had owned the land for generations. The Princess of Arenberg settled in this property to enjoy the wines that were produced there and the pleasant living environment.

In 1952, the property was sold to a family of winemakers who would make the wines of Château Soucherie famous in the region. The estate was sold again in 2007, and it is now the Beguinot family who manages this vineyard with a constant view to improving the quality of the wines.

In 2019, the estate begins its conversion to Organic Agriculture, and the first harvest will be certified in 2022.

The terroir

The Chateau Soucherie estate covers 28 hectares of vineyards spread over three sites. Around the castle, there are first 22 hectares of vineyards on schistose slopes facing south and sheltered from the north winds. On this part of the estate, we find mostly Chenin and Cabernet Franc, but also Gamay, Chardonnay and Grolleau.

In the heart of the village of Savennières, there are 1.8 hectares of vines, which constitute the Clos des Perrières, established on slopes of schist rock. Finally, in Chaume, 4 hectares are dedicated to the production of the 1er Cru Chaume, a typical sweet wine of the Loire Valley. The vines here are over 60 years old and are deeply rooted in the soil of this complex terroir.

The wines

The Reliefs Cuvée is a blend of Cabernet Franc (90%) and Grolleau (10%). The intense purple color and the balanced nose between floral, mineral, fruity and spicy notes hint at a fleshy mouth, with a fine tannic structure and aromas of fresh berries. The ideal wine to accompany a board of charcuterie, tartar or a firm-fleshed fish!

The Cuvée Harmonie is a rosé wine vinified from a single variety of Cabernet Franc. Its color is clear, revealing salmon-colored reflections. On the nose, we find an intense bouquet of floral and red fruit aromas. The mouth is greedy and fruity, round and tender... in short a buddy rosé that you can enjoy as an aperitif as well as with exotic dishes or desserts with red fruits (strawberry pie).

The Coteaux du Layon 1er Cru Chaume cuvée is the flagship wine of the estate. 100% Chenin Blanc, it is a sweet wine that offers a pretty deep golden yellow color. On the nose, one can distinguish a rather complete palette of candied fruits (apricot, quince and pineapple), as well as a little minerality that balances the heaviness of these ripe fruits. Finally, the mouth offers an amplitude and a suavity balanced by a fresh acidity. The finish is long, aromatic and very refreshing, which characterizes this Loire sweet wine. Served at around 8 degrees, this wine will sublimate foie gras, poultry, roasted white meats or blue-veined cheeses.
