Domaine de Bellevue

3.9
(4 customer reviews)
Domaine de Bellevue is the stronghold of Jérôme Bretaudeau. Since 2001, the winemaker has built up his estate, bit by bit, taking over plot after plot. Today, it covers 9 hectares of the Pays Nantais and four communes: Gétigné, Cugand (on the other bank of the Sèvre Nantaise, in the Vendée), Clisson and Vallet (among the wine region's leading towns). The winemaker

The Domaine de Bellevue vineyards

The grape varieties at Domaine de Bellevue include Cabernet Franc, Melon de Bourgogne, Merlot, Pinot gris, Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Sauvignon Gris and Savagnin. It produces white or red wine, as well as sparkling wine, appellations: AOP Muscadet, AOP Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine and IGP Val de Loire Vin de France.

Since 2009, Domaine de Bellevue has been converting to organic farming. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the vines are grown without pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers or other chemical products. The biodynamically cultivated vineyard was certified in 2016.

The making of Domaine de Bellevue wines

The wines of Domaine de Bellevue are typical Muscadets. Jérôme Bretaudeau is one of the winegrowers who contribute to the excellence of these Muscadet wines and who intend to make them known, not only throughout France, but worldwide. Domaine de Bellevue vinifies the local grape variety, despite its misleading name of Melon de Bourgogne, to which it adds Merlot, Cabernet, Pinot gris, Pinot noir, and Chardonnay.

A rare Savagnin from the Jura region completes the blend. Jérôme Bretaudeau uses original winemaking techniques, maturing in concrete eggs, stainless steel vats, foudre, barrels and amphoras. This is a veritable experimental winemaking and ageing park. The winemaker practices natural winemaking, which is consistent with an organically farmed estate.

The wines of Domaine de Bellevue

The Domaine de Bellevue offers cuvées of Muscadet Justice and Gaïa, as well as Pinot noir Statera, which can be found in gourmet restaurants around the world. Statéra is renowned for its intoxicating northern florality. Its finesse is incredibly stimulating, giving it an unexpected delicacy. Domaine de Bellevue's Cabernet franc is distinguished by a subtle approach and a focus on fruit, whose aromas are exacerbated. The estate is also renowned for its Merlot Ornaté.

The Muscadet wines from Domaine de Bellevue are renowned for their high quality. They are justly balanced between mineral expression and ripe fruit. These are full-bodied wines that capture the full measure of Burgundy melon and the typicity of local terroirs. Vinified for several months on lees, they reveal exotic, vegetal and fresh aromas, as well as great minerality.

The Domaine de Bellevue also offers Billes de Quartz sparkling wine, made using the traditional method, also known as méthode champenoise. It's a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. It seduces with its delicately rosy color and vibrant texture. Domaine de Bellevue's Billes de Quartz sparkling wine delivers notes of small red berries and peach, giving it great character.
