Domaine de la Perruche

3.9
(8 customer reviews)
The Domaine de la Perruche is located on the banks of the Loire in the commune of Montsoreau, whose 15th century castle inspired Alexandre Dumas for his novel La Dame de Montsoreau, the second work in the Valois trilogy. The siliceous stones composing the soil, commonly called Perruches, gave its name to the domain. Find out more

The winemaker

The Vineyard

The vineyard has been owned by the Beaujeau family since 2000. With the aim of offering quality vintages, Jacques Beaujeau undertakes to use the winemaking processes best suited to each grape variety and the climate of the Loire.
The Cabernet Franc and Chenin grown on 45 hectares allow the production of red and rosé vintages as well as dry, sweet and sparkling whites.

Jacques Beaujeau practices integrated pest management, that is, the priority use of ecological methods to protect the vines, as well as manual leaf removal in order to produce notorious, delicate and refined wines.
The entire vineyard is labeled HVE (High Environmental Value) level 3, attesting to a commitment to sustainable development (biodiversity, fertilization management, irrigation and phytosanitary strategy).

The terroir

The vines are very well exposed on a plateau overlooking the Loire. The exceptional terroir of the domain composed of Perruches and chalk "Tuffeau" allows it to produce red and white wines of extreme finesse and richness. The tuffeau allows in particular the Cabernet franc to blossom fully.

The Domaine de la Perruche is more accurately divided into two islands of parcels, where most vineyards are fragmented. The first islet is located on a plateau overlooking the Loire River. On this side, the altitude of the vineyard protects it from spring frosts and favors its exposure to the sun. The other islet is located on a different plateau, more stony and exposed to the sun.

In addition, the Domaine de la Perruche has its own wine-making cellar below the vineyard, on the banks of the Loire, allowing the vinification of the grapes to be done directly on site. Opposite, there is a cellar of breeding, conferring to the vineyard a true troglodytic heritage quite atypical.

The wines of Domaine de la Perruche

The vineyard offers a total of 13 different wines. The red wines from the vineyard carry the Saumur-Champigny appellation.
The Saumur Champigny Terroir de craie cuvée is made from a single-varietal Cabernet Franc, emblematic of the Loire region. It is a mineral wine specific to its terroir.
On the nose, we perceive notes of red fruits. In the mouth, the wine is fresh and balanced with a fruity and spicy finish.
The grapes are meticulously sorted and then macerated for 15 days before being aged for 6 months in vats. It is thanks to the know-how of the winemaker and his mastery of the Cabernet franc that the vintages of the Domaine de la Perruche have a signature that is both supple and fruity.
