Château Saint-Maur end
Château Saint-Maur lies to the west of the plain linking the foothills of the Maures massif to the sea. The building dates from the late 19th century. Its architectural style is reminiscent of 18th-century Moorish Spain. Below, you can see the vineyards that stretch across the hillsides, along with the garrigue and cork oaks. Roger Zannier became the owner of this magnificent estate in 2011.
With its hundred hectares, he set himself the goal of becoming one of Provence's most prestigious references. A mission he has largely accomplished with Marc Monrose, his son-in-law. He is in charge of the vineyard. The winery has been operational since the 2013 vintage. It is one of the most efficient in the Côtes de Provence appellation. It has a vinification capacity of 5,000 hectolitres.
The estate and its vineyards
The estate covers 100 hectares, 60 of which are planted vines. After a geological study of the estate's land, vines with almost non-existent yields are removed so that new "adapted" vines can be planted.
The vineyard is cultivated using integrated farming methods, with the utmost respect for the environment. The subsoils are composed of clay-limestone, schist and sandy-loam mica. The geographical location is ideal for these vines, which flourish wonderfully. Indeed, the south-east-west exposure, the maritime climatic influence and the mistral wind slowed by the famous Maures massif make this a perfect location.
Changes at Château Saint-Maur
Since Roger Zannier became the owner in 2011, the Château has changed a little. In 2012, he acquired a further 12 hectares of vines. These are located at an altitude of 449 meters in the "Clos de Capelune", a high-end rosé. A year later, after nine months of intensive work, a high-tech winery was built.
But Roger Zannier didn't do it all alone. He was assisted by Marc Monrose, oenologist and director of the estate. He enthusiastically develops all his know-how to produce quality work. This is what enables the wines to acquire a certain excellence and the nobility of Provence Rosés.
Since 1995, Château Saint-Maur has proudly held the Cru Classé label. This designation guarantees the excellence of the terroir and the expertise of the estate. The Château's vineyards are run by a family of winemakers originally from Portugal's Douro Valley.
