The winemaker
The history of Château Sainte Marguerite
The Maures terroir has been cultivated with vines since antiquity and especially the coming of the Romans. Although Château Sainte Marguerite has existed since 1929, the Fayard family only took over in 1977. Brigitte and Jean-Pierre fell in love with the place at first sight and decided to invest all their energy to produce a quality wine.
They have since passed on this passion to their children (and their children's respective spouses), in order to continue the viticulture in the rules of the art.
The Chateau Sainte Marguerite vineyard
The Chateau Sainte Marguerite vineyard is nestled between land and sea. Located around the coastal village of La Londe les Maures, its soil is composed mainly of weathered clay and schist. The Mediterranean climate has shaped a crystalline terroir of exceptional quality, conducive to viticulture. The terroir of La Londe les Maures is part of the AOP Côtes de Provence, with the complementary designation "La Londe".
The Fayard family practices massal selection. This involves selecting the best vines in the best plots, in order to preserve the originality of the grape varieties. This is how the rich and varied genetic heritage endures.
18 Crus Classés de Provence estates
Since 1955, 18 Crus Classés de Provence estates have been made at Château Sainte Marguerite. Since 2003, the estate is certified in 100% organic farming by the Ecocert organization.
