The winemaker

Le domaine de l'Olivette

Domaine de l'Olivette is a family estate and has belonged to the Dumontier family for several generations. It covers 55 hectares of vines and is one of the oldest in the Bandol appellation.

It has existed for over two hundred years and is located on the slopes of Le Castellet. Before vines took over in the 1930s, the mainstays of mixed farming were cultivated here. Some of the vines are planted on the estate, while the rest are scattered on surrounding plots.

And it's this diversity that gives the wines their "beautiful typicity". The estate is a member of the "Vignerons Indépendant" (independent winegrowers) association, and advocates authenticity and respect for the terroir. The last two generations have decided to modernize the winery with state-of-the-art, high-performance equipment.

The estate's expertise

After a manual harvest, the estate has implemented double sorting to guarantee perfect grape quality. What's more, the owners have installed a new winery with automated temperature control to perfect the elaboration of their wines.

The ageing cellar for the reds has several oak containers with an ageing time adapted to the profile of each wine. Since 2014, Domaine de l'Olivette has been certified "Haute Valeur Environnemental". The aim of this certification is to promote sustainable, environmentally-friendly agriculture.

Two vintages in three colors

The domaine produces two vintages in all three colors. The first is "Les Cuvées Tradition", genuine, authentic Bandol. Elegant, unpretentious wines. These cuvées highlight the terroir and the hard work of the winemaker. The Red is full of character and power, with a blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre, Bandol's royal grape variety.

As for the rosés and whites, their aromas are fine and subtle thanks to winemaking that favors structure. Next comes "Les Cuvées Spéciales". These are made from the best plots and have the same high standards as the previous cuvées. Here, the Rosés are ideal for gourmet meals, and are blended from Grenache and old Mourvèdre. The reds are of great finesse and mainly composed of Mourvèdre.

Bandol wines have developed over the centuries. Indeed, the first vines were planted in the 6th century BC, around the small village of Le Castellet. Anecdotally, Bandol wines had the honor of being served at Louis XV's royal table.
