The winemaker

The Chartreux Cellar Cooperative

The Cellier des Chartreux cooperative was created by a handful of winemakers in Sauveterre. It then moved to the village of Pujaut, which places it astride the Languedoc and Provence regions.

The Cellier des Chartreux currently brings together 81 winemakers who bring their specificity and creativity to the community. The vineyard is divided between the AOC Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages Laudun, Cru Lirac, Tavel and vins de pays du Gard.

Les Terroirs du Cellier des Chartreux

Les Terroirs de Pujaut

The AOC vineyard of Pujaut produces Côtes-du-Rhône and Côtes-du-Rhône Villages wines. Thanks to the clay-limestone plateau and the Châteauneuf-du-Pape type of rolled pebbles, these areas have more or less deep clay-limestone soils that give rise to dense and elegant wines for aging.

The plain of Pujaut is made up of a very chalky clay soil that gives it its distinctive white color. This shallow soil is wonderfully suited to the making of highly aromatic white and rosé wines, always offering great freshness.

The Terroir of Saint Gervais

The terroir of Saint Gervais was founded on the banks of the Cèze Valley by the Romans. Saint Gervais constitutes the northernmost part of the Cellier des Chartreux terroir. Located 40 kilometers north of Pujaut, the vineyard is therefore later. Its red wines are ripe and dense. Their power however lets the freshness express itself in the mouth.

The Tavel Cru

The Terroir of Tavel is rather varied. The part that belongs to the Cellier des Chartreux is located on the Beauchamp terroir, which is made up of sandy soils, as well as on the Vallongue plateau, which is known for its Châteauneuf du Pape-like soil of rolled pebbles. Blends using grapes from these two types of soils result in a ripe, fruity Tavel Cru that retains exceptional freshness and remarkable balance in the mouth.

Le Cru Lirac

The Cru Lirac vines of the Cellier des Chartreux are located in the commune of Roquemaure. The soil is characterized by a clay-limestone soil, including rolled pebbles. The maturity of the grapes from this vineyard results in the production of great red wines for ageing.
