The Castle of Sannes : a place full of history

In 1603, the castle of Sannes was only a hunting lodge built by the king's adviser of the time: Jean de Thibaud de Tisati. A few years later, his son Melchior and his wife transformed the place into a small castle and built a chapel as well as a magnificent French garden. At the end of the 16th century, the estate passed into the hands of the family of Antoine de Saquy who soon afterwards became lord of Sannes, giving his name to the castle. It is only in 1960 that the viticulture becomes the main activity of the castle of Sannes.
In 2017, Pierre Gattaz, ex-boss of the Medef buys the domain, settles there with his 4 children and starts in the viticulture by beginning a transition towards the organic agriculture. Today, the estate consists of more than 30 hectares labeled organic farming.

The territories of the Luberon and the wines of Château de Sannes

Located in the Vaucluse, in the heart of the Luberon, 35 kilometers from Aix en Provence, the Château de Sannes is composed of 70 hectares, including more than 30 hectares of vines. The Cabinet d'Agronomie Provençale accompanies him and advises him on the restructuring of the estate or the making of the wines.
The vineyard is located in a privileged place, in the heart of an extremely varied ecosystem. The richness of the Luberon soil also allows the different grape varieties to express themselves in perfect harmony. We find different grape varieties on the estate : syrah and grenache for the red and rosé wines and white grenache, rolle and ugni blanc for the white wines.
Moreover, the Mediterranean climate is favorable to the full blossoming of the vineyard and the mistral wind allows the vines to be naturally regulated. It is thus in this typically Provencal atmosphere that great gastronomic wines are born.

A castle between viticulture and wine tourism

Pierre Gattaz's project is to make this castle an exceptional and inspiring place. That's why he sets up various wine tourism activities : guided tour of the cellar and the winery, discovery of the vineyard; walks in the Domain, yoga in the heart of the vines... The summer period is also punctuated by musical aperitifs where visitors are invited to come and taste the wines of Château de Sannes. It is finally possible to privatize this exceptional place. Indeed, this castle, bathed in a typically Provencal atmosphere, is finally a unique and dreamed place to celebrate one's wedding.
