The Château de Sannes: a place steeped in history
In 1603, Château de Sannes was no more than a hunting lodge built by the king's advisor at the time: Jean de Thibaud de Tisati. A few years later, his son Melchior and his wife transformed it into a small château, adding a chapel and a magnificent formal garden. At the end of the 16th century, the estate passed into the hands of the Antoine de Saquy family, who soon afterwards became seigneur de Sannes, giving their name to the château. It wasn't until 1960 that viticulture became the main activity at Château de Sannes.
In 2017, Pierre Gattaz, ex-boss of Medef, bought the estate, moved in with his 4 children and began a transition to organic viticulture. Today, the estate comprises over 30 hectares labeled agriculture biologique.
The territories of the Luberon and the wines of Château de Sannes
Located in Vaucluse, in the heart of Luberon, 35 kilometers from Aix en Provence, Château de Sannes comprises 70 hectares, including over 30 hectares of vines. Cabinet d'Agronomie Provençale assists and advises on the restructuring of the estate and on wine-making.
The vineyard is set in a privileged location, at the heart of an extremely varied ecosystem. The richness of the Luberon terroir also enables the different grape varieties to express themselves in perfect harmony. The estate's grape varieties include Syrah and Grenache for red and rosé wines, and Grenache Blanc, Rolle and Ugni Blanc for white wines.
At the same time, the Mediterranean climate is conducive to the vineyard's full development, and the Mistral wind naturally regulates the vines. It's in this typically Provencal atmosphere that great gourmet wines are born.
A château between viticulture and wine tourism
Pierre Gattaz's project is to make this château an exceptional and inspiring place. That's why he has set up a range of wine tourism activities: guided tours of the cellar and winery, vineyard tours, walks around the estate, yoga in the heart of the vines... The summer period is also punctuated by musical aperitifs where visitors are invited to come and taste the wines of Château de Sannes. It is also possible to privatize this exceptional site. Indeed, this château, bathed in a typically Provençal atmosphere, is a unique and dreamed-of place to celebrate a wedding.
