The winemaker

The history of the estate


The modern history of Château Mourgues du Grès began in 1990 when François Collard, an agricultural engineer, joined the family business and decided to take advantage of the prospects offered by the new Costières de Nîmes Appellation recognized in 1986.

Rigor, determination and innovation led François Collard to his first bottling in 1993.

Accompanied by his wife Anne, he began marketing the wines. Drawing on her experience as an urban planner and geographer, Anne passes on her passion for the environment and landscapes, and her desire to preserve and enhance them.

Over the years, François Collard has raised Château Mourgues du Grès to the pinnacle of Costières de Nîmes, now managing 65 hectares of vines producing cuvées as delicious as they are representative of the terroir.

The terroir


The estate comprises 65 hectares of vines, all in AOC Costières de Nîmes. For red wines, the main grape varieties are Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan. For white wines, the dominant grape varieties are Grenache blanc, Roussanne and Viognier.

The soils are mainly composed of clay-limestone marl, pebbles and colluvium. The terroir faces north and south, giving a fine finesse to the red wines, and freshness and deliciousness to the white wines.

François Collard aims to produce wines that reveal the purity of fruit, and combine richness and minerality.

The estate is actively committed to respecting and nurturing nature, as evidenced by its Organic Agriculture and Biodynamic certifications.
