The winemaker
Bernard Burgaud's love affair with Syrah is like Romeo and Juliet. His 4 hectares of 30-year-old vines in Côte-Rotie are cultivated by human hands, something to which this winemaker is very attached. The Bernard Burgaud estate is located in the commune of Ampuis, and the vineyards are spread over six lieux-dits: Le champin, Leyat, Les Moutonnes, Côte Blonde, Fonjeant and La Brosse.
The rugged geography of the vineyards often precludes mechanization. Most viticultural work is done by hand, and the physical investment of the winegrower is very high. As Bernard Burgaud notes, "Winegrowing in these conditions cannot rhyme with reason, but only with passion". Given the steepness of the terrain, a single man can only manage two hectares a year!
The wine produced at the estate is the result of "the very strong bond between the terroir, the grape variety and the winemaker". Powerful, fruity explosion, that's what we can promise you when tasting the bottles. A Côte-Rotie with excellent value for money, to be ordered now from Twil.
