The winemaker
The producer
Adrien Roustan studied viticulture and has worked on wineries in California and Burgundy. In 2009, he took over part of his grandfather's land and created the Domaine d'Ouréa. He immediately converted the vineyard to organic farming. His efforts were rewarded three years later, with the 2012 award of agriculture biologique certification.
His aim is to produce wines that express the full beauty of his estate's terroirs. In the same quest for quality, harvests are done by hand, to retain only the best grapes in wine production. He continues his quest for biological balance between the environment and the vines with a transition to Biodynamics initiated in 2020.
Work in the cellar is carried out with the same rigor and quest for naturalness. The wine is aged exclusively in concrete tanks to preserve the delicacy and purity of flavors. The wines are bottled and sold young, to preserve the fruit's natural, dynamic character.
The vineyard
The vineyard is planted with eight grape varieties, enabling a variety of blends that bring diversity and complexity to Domaine d'Ouréa cuvées. Grenache predominates on the estate, with plots also hosting Cinsault, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, as well as three old Côtes du Rhônes grape varieties, Oeillade, Aramon and Counoise.
The estate's land is divided between 18 parcels, each with its own particularities. Four terroirs stand out, and a cuvée is produced from each of them.
Five parcels are in AOC Gigondas. They cover 4.5 hectares and are located in the lieu-dit Grand Montmirail at an altitude of almost 500 meters.
The parcels in AOC Vacqueyras stretch across the small hillsides to the northwest of the appellation on yellow and blue clay soils.
The terroir in AOC Côtes du Rhône consists of garrigues, with light soils and a multitude of limestone pebbles.
The estate has four parcels in IGP Vaucluse Tire Bouchon, close to the Ouvèze river. The sandy soil is enriched with silt as a result.
The wines
Domaine d'Ouréa markets four red wine cuvées, one for each terroir, but also two rosé wine cuvées in AOC Vacqueyras and IGP Vaucluse Tire Bouchon and one white in AOC Vacqueyras.
The red AOC Gigondas is a racy, fine red wine offering notes of ripe and fresh fruit, with floral aromas of peony. Grenache predominates, representing 80% of the blend. It is complemented by 5% Cinsault, Syrah, Carignan and Mourvèdre.
Cuvée AOC Vacqueyras is a fine, mineral red wine from the estate's finest terroirs. It is made with 85% Grenache, blended with equal parts Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Carignan.
The estate's red Côtes du Rhône is a natural wine with a complex aromatic bouquet offering floral notes of blue and black flowers and fruity aromas of blueberry and blackcurrant.
The IGP Vaucluse Tire Bouchon rouge wine has a nose blending floral, spicy and fruity notes with aromas of wild strawberry, cherry and fresh fruit.
