The winemaker

The domain


The Cassan estate lies between the Rhône valley and the Ventoux, at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail. This craggy massif owes its origins to the meeting of Pyrenean-Provençal folds and Pre-Alpine folds. The forest that accompanies the massif was quickly replaced by crops, notably vines, in the aftermath of the war.

It was in this exceptional terroir that Paul Croset founded the Domaine de Cassan, which has been a family estate ever since. Today, it is managed by his two sons, Jean-Charles and Vincent Croset. The vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soils, and the vines, aged between 4 and 40 years, are planted on hillsides, which give them optimum sunshine. Isolated, the estate is protected from disease and pests.

The grape varieties are 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault. The vineyard is entirely HVE-certified (tillage and treatments...), and the grapes are harvested by hand with de-stemming. Vinification is traditional.

The wines


Cuvée Jouvenço is a blend of Grenache and old Syrah vines. The color is bright garnet and the nose offers aromas of red fruits (redcurrant). The wine is full-bodied on the palate, with a fine aromatic structure and elegant fruitiness. A wine that goes wonderfully well with a fine piece of beef, or slightly strong dishes in sauce.

Cuvée Tradition is a classic GSM blend (Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre). Deep, intense red color, aromas of red berries with delicate hints of spice: a wine to enjoy in summer in a garden where the crickets are chirping.

The Cuvée Saint-Christophe is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault. The bouquet is rich and powerful, with a dominant of red fruits and some spicy notes. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with mellow tannins. Slight empyreumatic cocoa notes. Ideal for red meat or game!

Cuvée Les Esclausels is a blend of Grenache and Cinsault. Light and fruity, with a hint of spice, this wine is best served chilled, in its youth. It's the perfect accompaniment to a platter of charcuterie, grilled meats and summertime Provencal cuisine.

Cuvée Félibrige is a blend of Syrah and Grenache. It has an intense, deep, dark garnet-red color. On the nose, there are aromas of red fruit and licorice, as well as peppery notes. An easy-drinking wine that can be enjoyed on a barbecue with friends.
