The winemaker

A prestigious winegrowing history

Château de Nalys has a long winegrowing history, dating back to the late 16th century and one of the oldest estates in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC. Jacques Nalys gave his name to the estate in 1633. He received a barn and these vine-covered lands from the Archbishopric of Avignon, of which he was then the principal farmer. He vinified the first vintages, and the Nalys family owned the estate for a century and a half.

At the French Revolution, the estate was sold to a local family, who kept it for seven generations. During the Second World War, Doctor Philippe Dufays married the estate's heiress. He developed a passion for viticulture, expanding the vineyard by purchasing numerous plots and marketing Nalys wines worldwide. He sold the estate in 1975 after the death of his son.

The producer

Marcel and Philippe Guigal acquired this jewel of the appellation in 2017 and have since been committed to continuing the work begun by its previous owners. They belong to a great family of winegrowers in the region. Étienne Guigal founded Maison Guigal in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1946. A passionate winemaker, he selected the appellation's best vintages and produced prestigious wines that have helped make the region famous.

Marcel, his son, and Philippe, his grandson, realize an old family dream by becoming owners of Nalys. They apply the ancestral know-how inherited from their family to the estate, remaining faithful to the tradition of excellence and rigor handed down from generation to generation to produce Châteauneuf-du-Pape of the highest quality.

The winery

Château de Nalys lies in an exceptional location in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape area. The 60-hectare vineyard is made up of several parcels adjoining the Château (Nalys, La Crau and Bois Sénéchal). The appellation's 13 grape varieties have been grown here since the 16th century, and include the white varieties (Piqueboul, Picardan, Bourboulenc, Clairette, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc) and the red varieties (Muscardin, Terret Noir, Cinsault, Vaccarese, Counoise, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Grenache) of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Grenache and Syrah dominate the blends, and the wide variety available brings complexity to Nalys wines.

Chateau de Nalys farms 70 hectares of vines on a variety of soils. This exceptional context enables it to offer four different blended cuvées of excellent quality: two reds and two whites. Of particular note is the Grand Vin du Château de Nalys, the spearhead of the estate's expertise, which offers a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Counoise and Vaccarèse in its red version. It offers unequalled nobility on the palate. The white version of Grand Vin is a blend of Rousanne, Grenache blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Piquepoul, offering great complexity and light floral notes on the palate.
