Domaine des Anges

4.1
(7 customer reviews)
The Domaine des Anges, located in Mormoiron, takes its name from the chapel that overlooks it and from which the magnificent Mont Ventoux valley spreads out. Perched at an altitude of 350 meters, this pretty little vineyard benefits from the protection of the Giant of Provence while enjoying an optimal exposure for the maturation of the grapes. These elements constitute the winning recipe for quality wines. Find out more

The winemaker

A typical grape variety

The 16 hectares of Domaine des Anges are spread over several small hills at the foot of Mont Ventoux. The vineyard is then planted with traditional grape varieties of the region that flourish perfectly. Indeed, Syrah develops its characteristic spicy aromas while Grenache brings balance with its fresh red fruit notes. Finally, Cabernet Sauvignon, which is very much at home in Provence, brings tannins as a final touch to complex blends.

As far as white grape varieties are concerned, we find in the estate vines of roussanne, white grenache, bourboulenc or even viognier. Gathered within the different white wines of the house in various blends, they create a delicate harmony mixing sometimes floral, fruity and acidulous notes, sometimes more smoky and vanilla aromas. The resulting wines are thus always expressive and sought-after blends.

A unique terroir

The Ventoux appellation, of which Domaine des Anges is a part, is the cradle of many great wines due to the complexity of its climate, the typicity of its soils and its unique environment. Indeed, recognized as the highest vineyard of Mormoiron, the domain benefits from a relatively high altitude favoring a greater coolness, which proves to be salvific during the summer months with the overwhelming heat in Provence.

Overlooked by the Mont Ventoux, the Domaine des Anges is also protected from clouds, heavy rain and cold winds. It thus enjoys a Mediterranean climate with a slight mountain influence. The region is also the place of a particular geology. The soils are actually made of sediments deposited by the seas of the Tertiary era at the base of the Ventoux limestone massif. This results in clay-limestone soils that are suitable for growing vines.

Finally, located in the heart of the Mont Ventoux biosphere reserve, recognized by UNESCO, the vineyard benefits from the dynamics of integration of people and nature favoring the respect of a unique terroir.

A welcoming domain

Bought in the 1980s by Irishman Gabriel McGuinness, he transformed the property into a breeding ground for the appellation's best wines and made it a haven for lovers of Provence. Offering lodging in the heart of the estate, he conquers the palate of his guests with gourmet wines open to tasting.

These wines go wonderfully well with dishes in sauce as well as with traditional Provencal dishes such as daube or ratatouille. The philosophy of the house: to offer wines that exceed the expectations of the epicurean by their palette of flavors and emotions.
