The winemaker

The history of the Tours estate

Albert Reynaud, Emmanuel Reynaud's great-grandfather, was a notary in the Avignon region. His early deafness, at the age of 45, forced him to retrain, and in 1880 he decided to buy Château Rayas.

Louis Reynaud, Albert's son, took over in 1920. He acquired the Domaine des Tours between 1935 and 1938. The estate, located in Sarrians, was then an agricultural and polycultural property, and Bernard, one of Louis' sons, took over its management. In 1945, Louis bought Château de Fonsalette, located north of Orange, in the commune of Lagarde-Paréol.
This property of some ten hectares of vines, woods and olive groves was entrusted to Louis Reynaud's youngest son, Jacques. In 1978, on Albert's death, Jacques took over and specialized in winemaking.

Jacques Reynaud died in 1997, and it was left to his nephew, Emmanuel, to run the three estates. At the time, he was already managing Domaine des Tours, where he had founded the winery and started marketing the wines as early as 1989.

The terroir of Domaine des Tours

Domaine des Tours is located at the bottom of the Vacqueyras appellation, in the Sarrians sector. The 39-hectare estate is planted mainly with red grapes, which account for 36 hectares. Red grape varieties include Cinsault (35%), Merlot (5%), Syrah (5%), Grenache noir (45%) and Counoise (10%).
White grape varieties include Grenache. Domaine des Tours produces 120,000 bottles a year.

The average age of the vines is 35 years. Harvesting is manual, and the grapes are picked as ripe as possible. Grenache is the hallmark of Domaine des Tours: its color is not very intense, in contrast to its deep taste, both slender and spicy, and always with exceptional fruity aromas.
The wines of Domaine des Tours are complex, but always well-balanced. They have excellent ageing potential.
