The winemaker
An estate steeped in the history of the Rhone Valley
To be precise, this estate has been cultivated under the same family since 1481 in Mauves in the Ardèche, and today Jean-Louis Chave represents the sixteenth generation of winemakers at the head of the estate. For several decades he has completely deformed the vineyard, giving it the appearance of Japanese gardens drawn to the line.
During the late 20th century, the Jean-Louis Chave estate wanted to expand and set new goals. In the late 1990s, the Bachasson hillside, in Saint-Joseph, was reinvested in honor of the family's ancestors who had initiated the wine business there for a time. In 2009, it is the Clos Florentin that is restored, in order to give life back to these plots devastated by phylloxera at the end of the 19th century.
In the cellar, the winemaking process is based on the complementarity of the blends, the mastery of maturation and a very meticulous maturation in barrels. All these processes make the wines of the estate exquisite and faithful to the magical hill that gives birth to the grapes. The most beautiful "neighborhoods" of Beaume, l'Ermite, are thus felt in the red and one can thus enjoy a taste experience as intense as unique.
A typical wine: L'Hermitage
Bred on clay and gravel soils, L'Hermitage from Jean-Louis Chave is a wine with good ageing potential that will go well with a fine marbled beef rib. With an intense ruby red color and a nose of red fruits, we can guess a mouth full of substance but also on the freshness and the fruit. An absolute delight, a must from the Rhone valley!
