The winemaker

His story

The beautiful story of Domaine La Fourmone doesn't begin with a love of vines. In the beginning, the estate was not devoted to vines, but rather to livestock and cereal crops. It was with the Fourmont family that the adventure began for the estate, which became a farmhouse. A string of successors later, another family took up the torch. And it's this Combe family we're interested in, since they were the first to take over the vineyards.

In fact, they judge the terroir to be suitable for growing quality grapes. The region, climate and soil led them to pursue their winegrowing adventure in the Vacqueyras appellation. But they haven't forgotten the past: Domaine La Fourmone takes its name from the word "Fromentum", a reference to wheat. In fact, the house emblem is an ear of wheat, like a symbol.

The roots are still there, even if the destiny is different: the Combe family stopped growing other crops to concentrate on vines.

Organic commitment through and through

Today, the domaine produces wines in the Vacqueyras and Gigondas AOCs with a strong commitment to organic farming. It's a real commitment to nature and the vines. Convinced of the equilibrium of the vines, the estate has stopped all chemical treatments, and is now working the soil in a way that respects the life of the soil.

It took an 8-year sacrifice for the estate to finally designate itself as an organic vineyard. A whole new way of working was required, with additional costs. But today, the teams at Domaine La Fourmone are more than happy to work in a preserved environment...
