The winemaker

The producer

Mas Libian has been owned by the Thibon family for over 350 years. When their ancestor acquired the estate in 1670, it was then a hunting lodge. The vineyard became the main activity of the Mas in the 1970s, with the construction of a cellar on site, under the direction of Jean-Pierre. His three daughters now manage the estate.

The terroir

Mas Libian is located on a typical Rhodanian terroir, made up for the Côtes du Rhône Village appellation, of rolled pebbles and red clay soils. In the Côtes du Rhône area, the soils are clay-limestone.

The property benefits from a Mediterranean climate with strong winds and plenty of sunshine and a south, south-east exposure. A few plots to the north are home to the estate's Syrah.

The vines have an average age of 30 years. They are pruned according to the traditional gobelet method in order to encourage good ageing.

Traditional organic viticulture

Mas de Libian is constantly seeking balance and harmony with the rhythms of nature. Since its origins, the estate has only known peasant work and organic farming practices. As a result, the soil has been preserved from all chemical products. Only copper and sulphur have been used.

The soil is worked with the help of horses and the vineyard is managed with biodynamic practices, certified by ECOCERT and DEMETER since 2005.

The wines

All Libian wines are organic, from certified crops. The estate offers a fine range in all three colours.

The red wines of Mas Libian

The vineyard produces four vintages of red wines.

Bout d'Z*n 2019 is a wine with good ageing potential, but it can also be enjoyed young. Made from a blend of 3/4 Grenache and 1/4 Syrah, it can be drunk as an aperitif or with a family meal. It is the largest Libian cuvée, with a production of 60,000 bottles.

Calade 2019 is a wine that will go perfectly with anything that comes from the forest, from game to mushrooms, truffles and even chocolate.

Cuvée Khayyâm 2019, named after the 11th century Persian mathematician and poet of the same name, is a spicy wine with oriental notes. It can be kept for several years. If you wish to drink it young, a decanting is recommended. It is ideal for warming up a winter table, with simmered meats for example.

The Vin de Pétanque 2020 is a red wine with spicy aromas. It is a crisp wine to be drunk chilled, made from a blend of young vines of 75% Grenache with Mourvèdre, Syrah, Counoise and Vaccarèse.

A white wine and a rosé wine

Cave Vinum 2020 is a white blended from Viognier, Clairette and Roussanne. It is a fresh wine to enjoy with fish or southern goat cheese.

The Buve Z'en Rosé 2020 blend is made from Mourvèdre, Grenache and Counoise in equal proportions. It gives a very successful rosé wine, both taut, airy and very light.
