Domaine de la Garde

3.5
(2 customer reviews)
Domaine de La Garde is located in the commune of Labastide-Marnhac, 12 kilometers from Cahors, in this "stony country" of wooded hills. "Marnhac" comes from "marne": clay-limestone soil. Here, on the route to Santiago de Compostela, the vines soak up the sunshine of the terroir. Find out more

The winemaker

The Domaine de La Garde: the signature of excellence for Cahors Wines

Jean-Jacques Bousquet heads this prestigious estate, which has been in the family for five generations. Since 1880, this demanding and passionate family has passed on its know-how. The wines produced from the 15 hectares of vines at Domaine de La Garde are internationally acclaimed, regularly featured in the world press and awarded numerous medals. The estate is certified HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale).

The wines of Domaine de La Garde

Jean-Jacques Bousquet, harvesting owner, works in the "Cahors-Malbec" appellation (AOC) and Côteaux du Quercy (AOVDQS). Côteaux du Quercy" wines are terroir wines. Around ten wines are produced for each appellation. All wines are aged in oak or traditional barrels. Malbec and Merlot are the two main grape varieties. Jean-Jacques Bousquet also works with Chardonnay to produce his "Côtes du Lot" wines (vin blanc de pays). He also offers "Ratafia", a must-discover aperitif: when you taste it, you have the sensation of biting straight into a grape! "Côtes du Lot" and "Ratafia" are part of the "Vins de domaine" offer.

Cahors - Malbec

The "Cahors-Malbec" wines are the result of sustainable viticulture. The grapes are harvested by hand in successive sortings. They are matured in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, then aged in oak barrels. Made from 100% Malbec grapes, these intensely black wines reveal an extremely broad palette of aromas: black truffle, earth, stewed fruit, black pepper, vanilla, garrigue, prune, blackberry, brioche, toast, cedar... They are best served at a temperature of 15 to 17°C, ideally with grilled fish, grilled red meats, white meats in sauce, as well as all "characterful" cheeses.

Côteaux du Quercy

Côteaux du Quercy" wines are cherry-colored with purple highlights. On the palate, they are structured, intense and silky. The nose is delicate, with aromas of peony, blackcurrant, black truffle, cinnamon, vanilla, roasted hazelnut, leather, red fruits... To discover the full extent of these aromas, you absolutely must taste it! Served between 12 and 17°C, they are the perfect accompaniment to grilled red meats and white meats. Côtes du Lot" wines are made from several grape varieties: Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Ségalin, Gamay and Merlot for reds and rosés. The whites are made from Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Viognier, Sémillon and Chenin. These are highly aromatic, fresh wines with fruity aromas. Côtes du Lot wines are the perfect accompaniment to any festive occasion, from aperitif to main course. South-Western gastronomy and Côtes du Lot are a perfect match!
