Born into a family of winegrowers from cravant les coteaux, bernard baudry started out as a viticultural consultant at the tours laboratory alongside jacques puisais, after studying oenology in beaune. This formative experience lasted 5 years before he decided to set up on his own in 1975, managing a small 2-hectare estate. Matthieu, his son, studied in the Mâconnais and Bordeaux regions. After a year's internship in Tasmania and then California, he decided to join the family domaine in 2000. The estate now covers 32 hectares of vines in the Chinon appellation, in the communes of Cravant les Coteaux and Chinon. The main grape variety grown is Cabernet Franc (around 90%), with a small production of Chenin Blanc (around 10%). The vines are planted on a wide variety of terroirs: gravel on the plains, clay-limestone on the hillsides and sandy limestone on the plateaus. This diversity of terroirs makes it possible to apply parcel-based vinification. The vineyards have always been tended using environmentally-friendly methods (no chemical weedkillers).
